Tim Cahill - an Everton executive?

The testimonies of people who have worked with him, or around football in Qatar is very good mate. Good enough that Qatar royalty gave him a pretty senior job at one of their European clubs.

Lots of people in and around football talk very positively about Cahill. I dont think you get employed by people involved with projects like Qatar if you are not doing a good job, and a job that is to a far higher standard than we have at our club.
Fair enough, I was more focusing on you saying he was doing well at Eupen to be honest.

I have no issue with him coming in if he's suited and qualified for the role, it would be ideal in fact. I do agree that he seems to somehow be exempt from the 'jobs for the boys' idea though. If he wasn't an ex player not many people would be happy the idea of us appointing a sporting director who only has 6 months experience and all of it with a minor Belgian club, let's be honest.

When cahill started as a football pundit, I thought he was a bit bland, but when he settled into the role, he became a bit more forthright. I remember him commenting on some poor everton performances and he wasn't afraid to stick the boot in. He seemed to get that our recruitment was poor and our style of play was awful (around the silva/ancelotti period).

That gives me hope that if he does get some technical role, he will be able to contribute to the restructuring that is required at the club.

Isn't that 99.9% of this forum mate?

Yea maybe. Nothing wrong with that scenario at all. Not sure how DBB is to blame for anything myself but it is what it is. Why don't you think Cahill would make a good DoF though?
I think the general feeling is that she doesn't bring an awful lot to the table, especially when you compare her position to other clubs. When you think about a lot of other clubs, their CEO's are very much front and centre; Levy at Spurs, Woodward (before he left) at United, Purslow at Villa, Granovskaia at Chelsea etc.

Whatever you may think about some of those individually, it's unarguable that they are the head honchos at their respective clubs and have ultimate authority across nearly every aspect of those operations. DBB appears very much a mid-level manager, it seems that there's several rungs up from her and it's difficult to find much evidence about what she brings to the table commercially and strategically.

Don't get me wrong, it's not her fault. We are absolute sham of an organisation. She probably feels like she has two bosses and is stuck in the middle of a constant tug of war between two of the biggest idiots going. However, much of my frustration with Brands comes from the fact that up until the end, he appeared very content to just sit quietly in this mess and accept his lot for what it is. DBB comes across the same to me, she is part of the furniture and as with Brands if they applied themselves more forcefully they could probably have achieved far more than what they were able to. The silence from her office surrounding all of the uproar going on has been quite deafening.

I think Cahill is just cut from a different cloth. He has an incredibly modern outlook, I suspect he keeps tabs on the mood of the fanbase closely and is aware of some of the major changes that we need to see. Having said all of that, I doubt it happens, and even if it did, if we didn't see other changes it would probably count for little anyway.

That was probably unclear, and maybe a tad over generous from me. It was meant to be he has done well with in Qatar with Aspire from lots of testimony. In fair ess, I havent done much independent research beyond what people have said, and given it's quite niche I'm not likely too.

It's a fair question, and my only response would really be, based on the testimonies of others, which is not a great response.

He has worked as a DOF though and I think intuitively think hes well ahead of many of the other Ex blues we have had. I dont think hes here for charity like many of them are, as frankly he doesnt need it.

We'll have to wait and see what the official announcement is, but I'd be quite disappointed if he isn't leading his own department (or at least has a clear pathway in the next six months to do so) or given a Senior Executive position as first rumoured. It would be a waste of both ours and his time if he is brought in and not given any real responsibility.

I used to love that “celebration“ until I found out whst it represented.

I always thought it was sommat about kangaroos.

But apparently it was in “honour“ of his brother…whom was in a prison in Oz for punching some fellow ?

Wasn't in Oz mate, he was locked up in a prison in the north west. Mate worked there as a warden - and Cahill visited often.

Good news if so. Sounds like they are going for a big double announcement. The only thing that worries me now is that Tim is the “keep the fans happy” part of the announcement because they are going in a direction we won’t like for manager….

If Tim Cahill is coming in as technical director. Surely he needs to be involved in the selection of the new manager.

If he sees Pereira as the best match then we’ll have to roll with it. I really can’t see that being the case though.
