Tim Cahill - an Everton executive?

I like this appointment. Now can they be ruthless enough to ditch Unsworth and appoint a best in class to transform the academy. We should be number one in the region with the ability to offer the best talent a clearer path to the first team then our north west rivals
My issue with appointing former players is are they ruthless enough to get rid of other former players in roles? I’m not so sure. I am all for Tim Cahill though, just not sure it will lead to what you are suggesting.

…I have no idea about Unsworth but I do think he’s an easy target for the lack of talent coming through. I suggest the problems are much more complex than the U23 coach,

I don’t mind us hiring ex players, players that love the club and want their best for it.

At least we know they aren’t just here for the pay check… like some idiots we’ve hired.

I really don't get Jeffers and Ebbrell...and also who's the one who was here literally as part of his rehabilitation? It's ok to help them out I agree with that, but then not put them in positions of responsibility unless they're really good enough. Now Sharpy's a board member - very good player & record, but is he experienced in that role?
Wish we hired a really good DoF and gave them authority
An excellent CEO (or a deputy for DBB to leave to take on some of the football side)
And excellent backroom staff...

Structure, culture, finances all need to improve.

Baxter. Or do you mean Branch who Everton supported with his accounting degree and gave a position even though he was a convicted drug dealer of class A?

I like Cahill a lot and I sincerely hope he's the right person to be part of our club, but it again has a whiff of nepotism - protecting the ol' boys so to speak.

Putting it simply, I want the club to choose the right people for the right job: their suitability for the role has to come first; being an Evertonain is an added bonus.

Only ex-players I'd really contemplate (or ex coaches etc) are people like Cahill, Tim Howard (As an ambassador at least), arteta (future manager if he does well and then leaves Arsenal as an excellent coach), Rooney, Distin, Jags, Coleman...anyone from the 90s top team...players who were actually successful with us, or actually have great careers which showed them as fighters

Why? I like ex players involved if they're qualified and interview well for a role. none of them are currently I wouldn't think.
Cahill is which is good.

Such as ?

Is there such a lack of talent coming through?
Gordon is establishing himself now.
Dobbin and Onyango are both around the team.
Welcome seems another with big potential.

I think @Eggs was highlighting the lack of talent over the past decade rather than the immediate crop.

The leaders in that team (and teams before them) were people you could see as being genuine.

Totally different calibre and quality of leader and those you could see players respecting.

Instead weve had a bloke who consoles opposition players when they put in horrendous dirty tackles and argues with the fans.

I really hope we can bring Cahill into the club in a role where he can 'make a difference'.

Intetesting to see players like Arteta (Arsenal manager), Weir (deputy DOF Brighton), Carsley (England u21 manager) and others doing well...even the chap Lampard wants to bring in as assistant is our ex youth player.

How far weve fallen.
