Tim Cahill - an Everton executive?

I think @Eggs was highlighting the lack of talent over the past decade rather than the immediate crop.

The leaders in that team (and teams before them) were people you could see as being genuine.

Totally different calibre and quality of leader and those you could see players respecting.

Instead weve had a bloke who consoles opposition players when they put in horrendous dirty tackles and argues with the fans.

I really hope we can bring Cahill into the club in a role where he can 'make a difference'.

Intetesting to see players like Arteta (Arsenal manager), Weir (deputy DOF Brighton), Carsley (England u21 manager) and others doing well...even the chap Lampard wants to bring in as assistant is our ex youth player.

How far weve fallen.

….posters over the years have suggested we have young stars who are held up at U23 level and that Unsworth methods are sdverse to individual development but I don’t get that.

i can understand it more if we were having great success at younger levels, but we haven’t had a team get to the latter stages of the FA Youth Cup (U18s) for many years. For me, the FA Youth Cup remains the best indicator of real talent. Osman, Hibbert, Jeffers, Dunne et Al were all successful. I can remember watching Jimmy Husband and John Hurst winning it in ‘65 and even Rooney‘s team got to the final.

it suggests to me the outstanding individuals are not getting held up by Unsworth, they are more difficult to find. There’s not many young professionals we release who come back to haunt us. I watched the U23s in the week & they displayed terrific attitude and fair quality.

I’d be more inclined to think it’s recruitment rather than coaching and even then there’s plenty of reasons for that. Kids don’t spend their time with a football at their feet like we did in the 60s and 70s, you rarely see kids playing footy in the street like we did & schools football isn’t organised as it once was.

it’s a lot more complex than blaming Unsworth, although buying the best young professionals (Stones, DCL, Holgate, Lookman etc) looks a wise strategy.

Tim Cahill would be a very shrewd appointment to the club, I see him as a Techinal Director that sits between the DoF and the board. I certainly dont see this as "A job for the boys" due to the qualifications and work he has done since he finished playing. Very highly regarded in world football, Cahill's business career is diverse across a range of industries.

Cahill with Lampard would be a very astute partnership, both with that serious and professional attitude....

Are we seeing the first signs of a structure coming together on the football side.....

Owner - Moshiri
Board - Kenwright, Sharp, Ingles
CEO - Barrett-Baxendale
Technical Director - Cahill?
Director Of Football - ???
Manager - Frank Lampard
Backroom Staff & Medical Team

Even Prentice coming in as Senior Communications Manager I think is a positive....

Is he starting to listen to the fans?

He’s not quite yet, considering Pereira was still in the thinking yesterday after the nonsense of earlier in the week

I think he could do the DoF role, he has world wide exposure and seems likely to speak his mind to the likes of Mosh.
Oh did I mention that overhead kick and that goal for Australia in the World Cup?

I wonder if Cahill is seen as DBB's replacement, he is a very astute guy, he has a business degree from Harvard and knows the club and the league very well. Seems far more suited to the role of CEO than the lovely Denise.

Cahill did a weeks course at Harvard.

No idea where the business degree rumour started but seen a few posters make that mistake.

He's CEO or DOF or similar imo.

Chinese whispers mate. Weeks course at Harvard has turned into Cahill being well educated in the field. Regardless, I think he'd do a good job based on his CV

Definitely does point to recruitment.

But, isnt Unsworth now Academy Director or something?

Aside from players bought at 18+ the only 2 to have come through in a decade are Gordon and Davies...that has to be on someone.

100% i think it would be a brilliant appointment.

As CEO I could see him working well with a marketing and a commercial director. Thats based on his global contacts and how he has built his own brand.

Clearly he would need to have assistance on the operations side but perhaps thats a downwards move for DBB or an external appointment is made.

Id also like to see him affect the entire structure of the playing organisation along with hiring of staff. Thats more in the Sporting Director role who also sits on the board with a DOF below them that focuses on the playing side of things with the remit provided by the Sporting Director.

Right you are Zat, I just saw it in here and didn't bother checking it out, it was indeed a one week course. Still could well be a candidate for Denise's job should she decide to move on as per the rumours.

And I had people shouting me down earlier in this thread as if he was Einstein. If he comes in good luck to him.

….that role is lots to do with identifying talent that fits a playing strategy. Top players aren’t always top judges.
