I could be wrong here but when joel was first choice, didn't we play far more defensive, cautious football. I think Martinez played it safe in order not to concede while joel was in nets. He knows joel well and still put Howard straight back in. If he set the team up in front of howard the same way he did in front of Joel, Howard would have made far fewer mistakes but we would have won far fewer games.
Yes Doug he let in that many goals it was frightening keep drinking the whisky Doug as your facts amaze me! Are you on the Jack Daniels or is he our new playmaker?Fellas I can't help it. The fact is when Howard got injured we were 7 points from the 3rd from bottom team. When he came back we were 5 points and teams were gaining ground on us.
By the end of the season after Howard had been restored we ended up 15 (?) points above the third from bottom team. It's all there to see in black and white on the Internet.
Robles in goal was a dangerous situation for our premiership survival at that rate, luckily Howard returned and the team started to pull away from trouble.
Stop talking sense Doug!lolWell that's you're opinion and you entitled to it of course, you've repeated it enough now.
But for Howard's not a patch on the best keeper we've ever had, and probably the best British keeper ever.
The stuff he's on tonight it wouldn't surprise me!lolBetter than Southall is Howard.
The fact we never got beat by the red lot and never lost a game with Robles the beast in goal - yes!I could be wrong here but when joel was first choice, didn't we play far more defensive, cautious football. Yes his first home game v Leicester was a masterclass on how not to deal with crosses!lolFellas I can't help it. The fact is when Howard got injured we were 7 points from the 3rd from bottom team. When he came back we were 5 points and teams were gaining ground on us.

Most sensible post of tonight! That's a good observation mate but I actually think we went super defensive because we were in absolute dire form. I think Robles came on at ht didn't he against Stoke at home and then Martinez tried all kinds of mad formations against Hull with 3 at the back and Newcastle with Baines in midfield. I think it just got to the point where his only option left was to be defensive, stifle the opposition and hope for the best!!.
Bad call from Martinez to bring Howard back and I'm not slagging Howard off there btw. We had just managed to find a little solidity and it wouldn't have hurt Howard to sit on the bench a couple of games so he knew he had a fight on his hands for his spot back. I think Martinez even admitted a few games later he had just got back to full fitness.
He dropped a bollock imo and whether Robles is the one to take over Howard fair play to the kid if he bit his lip and took it because I would have been kicking down Bobbys door asking why I hadn't kept my place.
Most sensible post of tonight!
Yes look at the opposition Doug - a Merseyside derby -clean sheet - Crystal Palace away a win when we ended their unbeaten run under Pardew!
super Tim back for the bottom of the league Leicester two massive blunders scraped a draw FIVE put past TH in the Europa yes great comparrison Doug! "Three clean sheets that all it takes yeh" there's a Hollies song in there Doug! lol
How fans can defend an ageing Keeper who positioning is so poor , and has no bottle to command his area is beyond me!
The howlers that led to goals conceded as the score was C Palace 0 Everton 1 fact! Three points for the blues away at a hard fixture playing an inform team undefeated under Partridge - no need to discuss maybes what Robles did as he kept a clean sheet , and came for crosses v a very in form good side!joey ive posted the link to Joels howlers against palace before and you exited the thread do we really need to do it again?
