TIM HOWARD THOUGH

He used to get his gloves round things. He seems to be palming stuff out instead now, instructions or got worse? (Edit: I know he's gotten worse, I meant in this particular area of GKing)

Having watched some MLS the other night it's safe to that it would suit Howard perfectly.

That first cross which be decided to punch squarely away that went to one of their players on the 18 yard box just shows how much of a liability he is. He's making those sorts of decisions so early in the game is crazy.

Is anyone in the Garbutt thread decrying how he lets the cross in easy?..or the Alcaraz thread saying he should have left the header, just like half off goodison heard?...or the Barkley thread on how his man lost him like a toddler in the supermarket? ...or the McCarthy thread about him leaving the near post unguarded?

No their not are they! yet again the sole responsibility gets placed on Howard and everything else gets ignored. That's what you clearly don't understand, the need for a scapegoat.
+1 pos rep for you sir. McCarthy was the primary sinner for that goal - could have either a) come out with a bit of pace and headed the cross away; or b) stayed on the post (where he started) and just blocked the shot. But if you watch the reply from behind the goal, over howard's right shoulder, you can see he actually went for c) come out half the distance, don't challenge for the ball and make it harder for your keeper to see it.

Baines' comments at half-time were also very telling - if HE doesn't know who's organising things at corners, doesn't that go some way to explaining why we concede from them so often??!

It looks like it's going out though, but how far back shall we take it to blame Garbutt for letting the cross come on?

This is the trouble for me, everytime a goal is conceded it's blamed on Howard. No one else gets the finger pointed at them on here it's always his fault. There's a few players that should have done better with that but Howards the default scapegoat for most.
I agree and it was a cluster Fook as per usual, but I don't like his beard and the interview before the game was embarrassing.

Right, but he's not going to get the night off. Most goal chances come from some defensive lapse or other in football. We had a few in the first 30 minutes, but only one that led to a direct shot on goal and he couldn't save it. He literally had one thing to do.
Agreed mate. Think he's a really poor GK myself.

he's so shi'te that I brought my gloves along .. just in case .. and I've never played goalie in my life .. but I can clear a bunch of blokes out of my path.

before the corner that we conceded from the ball was crossed from that side, Howard left it when tbh it looked like he could've caught it, ball stayed in play, was crossed back in and Ten Peso Head Alcaraz put it out for the corner, if Howard hadn't left it then the corner wouldn't have happened.

That whole 1 minute passage of a pretty much summed up a lot of the season - so bad you had to laugh.
