TIM HOWARD THOUGH

Anyone defending Howard can do one. Forget responsibility for the goals -- for the record, I think he was poor for the goal but not the one most responsible -- and just look at his play. He is glued to his line. There was a high ball at one point and you could see Jags glance towards Howard to see what the feck he was doing this time, and then have to clear it himself. He is the least commanding keeper in the Prem.

Joel isn't Buffon, but at the end of the day he was coming out and claiming crosses and high balls. When a keeper does it you don't think too much of it, but the comparative effect is huge upon the defence. How can they play with confidence when they don't have a clue what the keeper's going to do?

Howard is appalling. The worst season for a keeper at Everton since the days of Paul Gerrard. But throw in the fact that we have a 2nd choice keeper sitting on the bench who's kept as many clean sheets in what, 1/4 of the games? Well, it's just unforgivable. The reason Howard is being "singled out" is because he is possibly the only player in the team who has stunk the place out all season, and in spite of having a player who's played to a higher standard pushing for his position, remains in the team regardless of his woeful form. Barry had a rough patch for sure and needed/needs a rest, but even Barry has had his fair share of good performances and you can see what he brings to the team.

What does Howard bring at the moment? Panic and opposition goals. Brilliant.

Having watched some MLS the other night it's safe to that it would suit Howard perfectly.

That first cross which be decided to punch squarely away that went to one of their players on the 18 yard box just shows how much of a liability he is. He's making those sorts of decisions so early in the game is crazy.
What could any goalkeeper have done with that cross. 4yds out driven across with players running in on it. The ball was absolute quality, to blame him for getting it pushed out of our 6yd box is ridiculous.

+1 pos rep for you sir. McCarthy was the primary sinner for that goal - could have either a) come out with a bit of pace and headed the cross away; or b) stayed on the post (where he started) and just blocked the shot. But if you watch the reply from behind the goal, over howard's right shoulder, you can see he actually went for c) come out half the distance, don't challenge for the ball and make it harder for your keeper to see it.

Baines' comments at half-time were also very telling - if HE doesn't know who's organising things at corners, doesn't that go some way to explaining why we concede from them so often??!
I played full back the keeper told me what post he wanted me to guard on a corner!

It was pathetic. He got no distance on the push away, and even worse he put it straight into the path of an opposition player when there should have been no difficulty it pushing it wide towards the touchline. Worse for me though was in the second half when they crossed a slow, flighted ball in to the 6 yard box for which any commanding goalkeeper would have gone forward to make his own. Incredibly he went backwards!

I'm just done with him, like. It's fatiguing watching him play for Everton every week. Can't wait for a new keeper, keepers in general tend to have sound first seasons.

The goal he conceded last night looked preventable if he had just tried to catch the initial ball across goal that they then crossed in from. He sort of did a half-arsed attempt at jumping and gave up midway through.

I've always thought he was not a bad keeper and has been the best we have had for a long time but for me he is just not good enough anymore. Everytime there is a ball into the box I expect a goal and that should not be the case.

His positioning is terrible - one time last night he was stood near the penalty spot when one of their players had a shot - if it had been on target it would have been in.

Last night was just another addition to the huge list of harmless crosses that Howard turned into a goal scoring opportunity for the opposition....

Anyone who thinks we will win the EL with Howard in goal need their heads looking at, eventually he will cost us a goal against a team that will not be so forgiving/crap as Kiev were

1. Doesn't come for Crosses
2. Flaps at any ball that does come near him in the air, usually dropping it at someones feet
3. Doesn't position anyone on the near post for corners, as apparently it obstructs his view... presumably of the ball flying into the net at the near post
4. Has terrible positioning generally, standing too far over one side, of his line for no reason etc
5. Gets beat by any half decent shot from range
6. Gets beat in any one on one situation
7. Can't kick, may as well give them the ball back on any goal-kick etc and save the 3-4 seconds it takes the ball to flop their from Howard's fat melon of a foot
8. Makes at least 1 unforced mistake that provides the opposition with a clear scoring chance every single game - usually more than one
9. Has a beard that makes him look like a mentalist
10. Has a beard that makes him look like a terrorist
