I think I get dark humor and have certainly laughed at my share of the Darwin Awards.

But the fact that they are possibly still alive and facing what would be one of my all time worst ways to die and there is a 19 year old involved with his own dad potentially watching - I honestly couldn't wish it/celebrate it for my worst enemy.

Not to mention the Karma factor.

The very thought of what they might be facing is horrifying

I almost hope that the pressure went killing them instantly

Same with me. I don’t get the way some people seem to be taking joy from this.

However, if there were ever a good argument for why billionaires need to be paying more taxes, surely it’s this whole episode. There are people in the countries tasked with the search and rescue who are literally starving, yet now taxpayer resources are being allocated to look for a bunch of guys who had such obscene wealth, that for their leisure activities though, “I’ll just head down to the Titanic and have a look around.”

Not saying they should have been left to their fate, just that maybe nobody really needs to accumulate so much wealth in the first place that they’re spending their holidays diving to the ocean floor or rocketing into space.

I think the reaction comes from the fact that millions of dollars of rescue material, manpower and technology are being put to use to potentially rescue some extremely wealthy folks who chose to get into a diving bell equipped with a controller I found inaccurate for pitching in a baseball game. Then comparing it to the giant shrug when 500 people fleeing war and deprivation drown in the agean ocean.

Baffling that it doesn't have some sort of GPS or whatever on board

GPS relies on the satellites being on the line of sight without obstructions. 12000 feet of seawater is a bit of an obstruction.

Recovery mission now, surely funded by the billionaire's family. No more tax payer money should be wasted on a recovery mission for five people who signed a waved knowing this may happen, especially after likely tens of millions have already been spent on it. RIP of course but what a dumb way to die.
