Titanic Tourist Submarine Goes Missing

Blimey, is this Disaster Wars or sommet? The Greek tragedy has been front page on the BBC all day, as has the Sub. But a rare rescue mission has always been very news worthy. Think Apollo 13, the Chilean miners, the youngsters trapped in a cave in Thailand(?).
I get that, the discussion didn’t really start about the media coverage though, it’s more about the global response to it such as the support being directly provided by nations/heads of state etc.

So other countries with the specialist equipment shouldnt bother?

That’s not what I’m saying.

But that’s like suggesting the Greeks have the most specialist equipment in the world for dealing with the capsized boat and no other nations have specialist equipment that could help there? Considering there are hundreds still unaccounted for and are still being reported as missing rather than dead.

It just comes across that the lives of the 5 rich people are more valuable than the lives of hundreds of ‘migrants’.

Not to me it doesnt. I doubt any of the kit in the North Atlantic would be of any use at all to Greece.

But there has long been a fascination with The Titanic, so the rescue of 5 folk in a sub is bound to be of interest. That does not diminish anything from the Greek tragedy, it just is what it is.

But there would be other kit that could be used surely? Yet I haven’t seen Macron coming out and sending any specialist equipment to support there (just as one example).

And yeah, there is a fascination about the titanic, but like I said, it wasn’t a discussion about the media coverage.

Pretty sure the two ROV's on the sea bed are French mate. Or do you mean France havnt sent anything to Greece/the Med? Not a clue if they have or hasnt. But either way, the global community is pretty good at mobilising NGA,s and military assistance when disaster strike.

It aint worth falling out over anyrate.

Goodness me, anything to start a class war.

How do you feel about the UK government response to the recent Turkey and Syria earthquake disaster? Were they poor enough for you?

Pretty much when a normal disaster happens on water by the time you have mobilised an armada of specialist search ships and underwater vehicles it will be already too late. This is a bit of a one off where they had 90 odd hours to move the chess pieces in place.

Class war 😂

Ok mate. I retract it all. The responses to both events were of equal and proportionate measure in regard to preserving and and all life.

The problem really is that all these events are different, land sea and deep sub sea and also the effects of the event had slightly differing timescales. The poor souls who died in the med or went missing died almost immediately and it’s an area of high density sea traffic and air flyovers so little point in calling for international support. The earthquake was different with survivors lasting days and it was covered all the time on TV and media. This sub sea event has been going since Sunday and the powers that be still haven’t given up on potentially saving their souls. I don’t believe approaches by the media have been out of kilter or favouring one over another. A tragedy for all I’m afraid…..
