Titanic Tourist Submarine Goes Missing

The only left/right issue here is that no individual should be rich enough to build and sell places on a submarine to go 4000m under the surface wothout any regulatory oversight. Also, you shouldn't be able to pay for your trip on said tub by helping Oligarchs avoid sanctions whilst selling their jets.

To be fair I don't know if any regulator could be set up to oversee such activities. It's very hard to test vehicles to pressures they will be diving to on land. Perhaps they could monitor paper trails and complaints and bar them from taking paying passengers if they spot anything untoward but there are always ways and means to try and get around that. Therefore would any regulatory body want to put their necks on the line in what is a very much experimental field?

I agree that it's a complex set of circumstances. If you have a spare 20 minutes, this outlines a lot of the issues really well. It basically seems that the guy just had no interest in safety and operated on "Be reet" all the way down to not hiring (expensive) experienced hands in development, then firing those that questioned his plan.

Wonder how many would've been saved had we sent half the world's maritime rescue ships?
Quote from bbc report:
''Separately, Spanish authorities also rescued more than 160 people from three other boats near the islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria overnight on Wednesday and Thursday morning".

TBH climbing on board a freaking Yamarin with 700 other mainly non-swimmers is also Darwin awards stuff. No matter the motives.

Like seriously, I was once in a situation in Eritrea's Massawa, where a local dude just went for a "swim" in big waves although he was incapable of any basic swimming. We had to resuscitate him and the dude lived (the locals we're rubbing his toes and stuff as first aid). Quite often in Africa even the fishermen don't know how to swim.
