Was reading on another (more intelligent) forum yesterday about the stress properties of carbon fibre; apparently loading carbon fibre under compression doesn't utilise it's real strengths and it's when loaded under tension that it's optimum. Basically it's better use in the sky / space than it is underwater.

Makes sense given we sort of half know the outcome now.

Seems it was a lifeline ruled out for inconvenience and cash reasons.

Mental that. A tether is surely the most basic of safety equipment, especially if you’re charging people 250k a head.

I would say as well that Carbon Fibre, when it fails, fails dramatically. You won't notice the material fatigue until it's too late unless you use x rays or somesuch. It's not like steel or such where you'll see it crack or warp.

Weirdly not a lot of data exists on how many times you can send a CF tub to 4000m below before the crush/relax cycle makes the hull unsafe.
