The stuff I read and people I talk to see it a bit different.

They aren't saying Sancho and Håland play the same position as an example.
As @MarcelsGoat said, through all my life where I've been going to watch Everton and other football it's pretty much always split into four groups by most people.

The generic term is a forward and in that you have different types and styles: traditional centre forward; false-number 9; target man; poacher etc etc.

They're all forwards though. It's like Kenny is a right back, but he's a more traditional full-back whereas TAA is a right back, but more a right wing back.

10s aren't strikers. This is exactly what I'm saying.

If I say he's a Top 5 #9 can we please leave Messi and Neymar out?
To me it's keeper defenders midfielders and forwards obviously you have different team roles and approaches. But a striker is usually the spearhead or central forward in such a role Messi might not be traditional in that sense but he's still the spearhead of barca same as Neymar for psg.

I'd say depending on the game the spearhead is Mbappe, Icardi or Cavani. And for Barca it is Suarez when healthy.

They're both midfielders: De Bruyn is an attacking midfielder while Busquets is a defensive midfielder.
And Messi and Haland are both forwards, but Haland is a striker while Messi is a #10/winger/inside forward or whatever. But like Busquets and De Bruyne they have different jobs and take up different spots on the field and shouldn't be grouped together. But you guys do you.

I just find this wild. Taking the logic into midfield, do I have to compare De Bruyne and Busquets? Or can I say they play different positions?
They influence from the centre of the park so categorically they are midfielders. As a broad term midfielders but you can define them from there playing roles it's not hard football is a game of zones always has being
