I think we’re missing the point here. It doesn’t matter if it was offside or not. Was it a “CLEAR and OBVIOUS mistake”? No. It wasn’t. No one in the ground including any of the refs thought it was, and no one even appealed. Not a clear and obvious mistake. Shouldn’t be disallowed.

Again though, you just introduce ambiguity that way. Who determines 'clear and obvious'?

Just have the rule that if a body part is offside, then they're offside. That way it's a crystal clear rule.

It's like a ball knicking a bat in cricket. It doesn't matter that he hasn't thumped it and been caught; the point is it touched the bat, so he's out.

There's no controversy guys. He's offside. It's not by much but that doesn't matter. It's no different than Stones clearing the ball by a couple centimeters. The ball didn't go over. The margin doesn't matter. Same with offside. It's a black and white thing.

In this instance it's not though as they were using his "shoulder" as the marker for the off side. Where does the arm end and the shoulder begin with a 1mm margin being the measure of whether it's onside or off? Needs a referees call or a margin of error on offsides or it will get ridiculous as far as I'm concerned.

It's also a clearly defined rule. If a part of the attacker he can score with is ahead of a part of the defender that he can score with the player is offside. There's no wiggle room either.

If that's how you want the game to be played now, then hope you enjoy and everyone else who agrees enjoys it.

I think removing an emotional aspect the way it's been implemented

Is it in the spirit of the game to give people the benefit of the doubt on goals that get cleared a mm before they go over?

You'd have to ask the providers of the technology what the accuracy of the goal line technology is? If it's correct to under 1mm then no you wouldn't which I presume is the case or else this BOD would be given for 1mm.
