Wasn't much in it but you simply can't do that. There is no grey area. He's kicked out and, while lightly, has caught van Aanholt
Must admit I've watched it several times but still can't see any flex of the knee or him kick out, not even sure if there was any real contact although probably was the slightest touch if anything.

Players need protecting from foul play but you can go too far the other way, and they have.

At best it was extremely soft, but probably ludicrously harsh and ridiculous.

Don't agree. You get bundled to the ground - you get up and carry on. You do not lash out with your feet at an opponent. Pereira got what he deserved.

I don't think he lashed out, even 'to lash out' implies force and a kick and it wasn't that by any stretch - he touched him, there was no flex and straightening of the knee, there was no kick out at all.

incredibly harsh for me,

It was a red. I’m assuming you are watching a different incident to the rest of us.

Not harsh at all. You just get up off the ground. If the opponent is still standing there, you roll away and get up. Pereira lashed out with his studs in the WBA player's stomach. Red card every time. The only thing wrong was that the ref showed him a yellow at first...
