bloody hell Ireland

can't even name a single Luxembourg player

One in the eye for the “put all the smaller teams in their own little league because they gain nothing from playing proper teams” brigade though isn’t it?

Luxembourg used to get destroyed on a regular basis, but in the past 10 years or so they’ve greatly improved

This win was going to come, Ireland are just unlucky they were the ones who had to eat it

Northern Ireland already know that Luxembourg aren’t a push over

I'd say San Marino and Gibraltar are easily the worst sides. But the rest are half-decent. Teams like Malta, Luxembourg, Cyprus can be potential banana-skins for many bigger sides.

I'd agree with that, there are even degrees of ineptness right at the bottom of the ladder and some are ever so slightly better.

Toffee Tim made a good point about changing the style in international football being difficult. When playing a more possession based game you need the right type of gifted players, ones who can control and distribute at pace.

Luxembourg are extremely limited but if you're slow enough in possession or make mistakes and give it away, they're good enough to be organised and make it tough.

All clutching at straws though, let's face it Ireland have been to several world cups even if twenty years ago. Luxembourg are still very much cannon fodder, whipping boys and no hopers - a result nightmares are made of, truly horrendous and unbelievable - absolutely incredible.

Expected 3-0 how wrong can you be when they can't even beat these - bring on San Marino maybe get a draw.

To be fair to them, the best footballer on the pitch played for Luxembourg, that Gerson Rodrigues plays for Dynamo Kyiv.
Coleman aside, are there any premier quality players in that Ireland side?

Worst Irish team I can ever remember, and gives even more credit to Mick McCarthy for dragging them through to a play off.

Ireland Qatar will be an interesting game but can't see anything but another Ireland loss.
