Today’s Football 2020/21 Season

It's like our C team. Never heard of some of these guys.
I know I meant it wasn't the team I'd pick based on who is in the squad though. I'd give Hoppe/Dike and Busio some minutes at a minimum. And I'm not really sure I get the Lewis love.
Zardes is the luckiest player of all time to keep getting picked like this. If Gregg didn’t get the job he’d be about 12th in the pecking order.
He should be third string on this team.

Why do you reckon we aren't going for this competition?
My guess is they think after the long and congested season that most of the guys like Pulisic, Reyna, Adams, Weston, etc, could use a real break this summer and I tend to agree. They got them into camp and won a trophy with the Nations League and then got a full month off before preseason. It should be good for them long term.

Gregg doesn’t seem to rate Dike. And that’s fine. But when the question is, “Who should start for the US up front?” The answer should never be Gyasi Zardes. He’s a hard worker with some decent pace but he’s so not up to it at an international level.

Prioritized nations league and it worked out. Let the better players go back to their clubs and give the fringe guys a shot. No problem with it really.

That just seems backwards to me to prioritize the less prestigious tournament.

I think it was prioritizing qualifying more than anything. The Nations League was two matches as opposed to six for the Gold Cup. And then it was right at the start of the summer. They're going to have guys playing a lot of games between clubs and the qualifiers so they need them as fresh as possible and this is the best they could do with what they control. Now they have 6 games here to work on the depth. Which is why I don't quite understand tonight's lineup but it is one game.

I guess I can't get my head around it. It would be like Brazil taking a U-23 side to the Copa or England choosing a youth side for the Euros.
