Todd Boehly. A man...who wants an all-star game.

I'm on an England based forum and no one feels they have greater latitude to decide who does and does not count in football, or tbh the world in general, than the English. Of course I'm outnumbered.

On the other hand I'm listening to a prominent NFL show with an English analyst on and no one has suggested that his analysis is inferior because of where he comes from even in jest. So you really can do it if you try hard enough.

I think you may misjudge my comments (can't speak for others), I have no issue with fans from different countries, they can be just as invested in the game as a more local person.

If a person, wherever they are from, does not think that stunts like this are designed to destroy the fabric of the game and create a customer based entertainment program then they are not fans, they are customers.

As an example, not watched the documentary but in the few interviews they have had Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have come over here and seem extremely knowledgeable in the history of the game, the history of Wrexham and the local community. There hasn't been any I think the game should have the same model as American Sports, just simple embracing what the game means to the fans.

Boehly said in the same article he'd never try to do a super league because the systems are too ingrained with the fans but we aren't talking about that are we?

Depending on the sport, American All Star Games are a joke. The NFL Pro Bowl is notorious for unphysical play and people backing out of the game. Hockey is similar. Baseball and basketball at least resemble a real game because the risk of injury is lower.

A footy all-star game would fall on the joke side. No one's going to sprint 50 yards to chase down a ball in the channel or put in a serious tackle.

I also said that he might not 'want' the all star game but more he is asking why there isn't one?

I am simply answering that particular question. Why don't we have this? It is because it would be meaningless to too many people. It is just not the games culture, especially in this country.

I balked at the idea yesterday but I think it could have a tiny bit of merit, bear with me.
I'm not sue there's a need for the League cup.
Say the league cup is scrapped, and there is a one off all star game played on Boxing day (or whenever, an argument for a different thread)
All the funds go to grass roots or lower league football
and the league Cup Europa spot goes to the team that qualifies through league position from the region that wins the all star game.
Sure, it's gimmicky but it frees up a lot of league Cup fixtures, funds lower leagues and could be a bit of craic.
Each team would have to have at least one player in the starting XI's.
People go mad for fantasy football, maybe try tie in to that.

For me, it's a better idea than a super league or a round of PL games abroad.

No mate it's still a terrible shout really.

What funds? No PL manager will allow their players to play in it.
I dunno, I'm not the finance guy, Sell the rights, sell advertising, sell tickets.
If they let their players play pointless Nations cup international friendlies, maybe they will let their players play for this.
The bottom 14 teams will be playing for an extra Europa spot.
I'm not bothered if it doesn't happen.
but I'm not outraged if it does.
For all the "leave football alone" shouts
When I was a kid, it was 2 points for a win, the players wore team numbers not squad numbers, there was no names on jerseys, there was 22 teams in the league, the revenue was divided among 92 teams, there was 2 subs (I think), you could pass back to the goalie, there was no VAR or water brakes and only the best team played in the European cup.
