People make judgements on players from what they hear other people say. Guaranteed the majority of people who say he's [Poor language removed] have never really watched him play.

he's been playing in the prem and for england for a good few years now, almost everyone would have seen him

The things being said about Cleverley were being said about McCarthy this time last year, but the difference is, most people have seen him play for United loads more than people saw Macca as Utd are on T.V loads and also, he plays for England most of the time, and again a lot of the wools on here, (including myself), watch England every time they play, so they've had enough time to make judgement. The things that were said of McCarthy are true about Cleverley.

Don't care about the Martinez effect here because he could have the same effect on a better player for the same price.

The biggest indicator of this will be McCarthy... despite being an absolute monster this season he's still not on the bracket of "Man in pub, wanting to sound like he knows about football by telling his mates "you watch him, he's really good, you've got to have a trained eye for him".... been a few of them in the past few years, Carrick, Lucas, Dembele etc

Footballers have a very good habit of making some fans look very foolish in their rash judgements.

Dembele is a beautiful footballer by the way. Not always effective but so good to watch!

But yeah I agree. Paddy power have been bigging him up lately so he will soon become fashionable.

Back on topic I see Clev as more of a Pienaar/Hleb type of player. Won't get a ton of goals or even assists but is key to the tempo and fluidity of the team.

I'm not sure about him but I would trust Robertos judgement
what I would say is you can judge no United player on how they performed this season.. Bar possibly Rooney they have all underperformed. You could get someone from there at a reasonable price because of this

There's a bit of a difference between watching United on a Sunday over your roast and deciding and watching him week in, week out for your own team, in the flesh.

If he comes everybody will love him. Quote me.

HE'S UTTER, UTTER CRAP.
AND LOOK AT HIM!

Fair points.

Do think what you've seen at Man Utd is a misnomer though. True to an extent for England, how many players display their best for England?

Anyway - Alex Ferguson and Roberto Martinez rate him - the latter publicly backed him not so long ago. I recall he looked a different player alongside McCarthy at Wigan, he could be a different player at us.

Does this mean that I have to come off that petition I signed about him because he's too crap for England?? I do trust RM but I really can't see what he can offer us. It was the Utd fans who started to say "so what does Tom Cleverley actually do?"
He probably needs a new start as his confidence is shot to bits, but not here.

don't have sunday roast tbh.

can't sit down and watch him week in week out because he can't get in a centre midfield that is worse than ours

also when he is playing, i don't need to be sitting down and watching him to see and hear "cleverley gives the ball away", "cleverley get's tackled", "cleverley has done nothing of note against west brom" etc,

This is sort of what I'm saying though. The opinion of many people on here will be based on snippets of play as he isn't a player you would pay particular attention to.

I don't see what he does really and think he's utter tosh, but he'd be good for us I reckon.

Under 10m and I'd be fairly happy with it. Darron Gibson the second without any injuries, maybe.

What does he actually do ?, he doesn't break up play, he doesn't make killer passes, he doesn't score.

Gibson and Barry are at a different level to cleverly
