Pienaar is a number 10/winger, cleverly has always played centre midfield

Only speculating here but I can imagine he would play the same role. Left winger drifting in and linking with the CM's and leaving the left flank to Baines. Martinez seems to like this. See Barkley and Osman in the last game.

Haha, as if. He's nowhere near Gibson in any way. Maybe gets round the pitch better.

I think Gibson is living off the back of his own [Poor language removed] reputation. Everybody expected him to be awful and the fact that he wasn't made him look better than he is.

The things being said about Cleverley were being said about McCarthy this time last year, but the difference is, most people have seen him play for United loads more than people saw Macca as Utd are on T.V loads and also, he plays for England most of the time, and again a lot of the wools on here, (including myself), watch England every time they play, so they've had enough time to make judgement. The things that were said of McCarthy are true about Cleverley.

Don't care about the Martinez effect here because he could have the same effect on a better player for the same price.

difference is though if the same things were said about McCarthy this time last year then they were incorrect as he consistently performed well for Wigan, he's upped his game another level since he's come to us but its not as if he's gone from being poor to excellent - Cleverly has simply been extremely bad for Man Utd, cant see how anyone can argue against that

Weird though. As we all know, I wasn't fussed on McCarthy as Wigan at all, more fool me, but Cleverly at Wigan was from memory really good.

I can sort of see the logic in reuniting him with Martinez. But I can't believe there aren't better options available.
