I do fear for Besic with Cleverley coming in

I like Mo, and would be happy to see him play a bit more next season

That being said, if Gibson gets moved on, there's a slot one of Besic or Cleverley can fill

Cleverley is one of those buys where, as a part of a number of signings, he's just fine. He's not actively bad player at all IMO, he's just completely underwelming as a signing in every way

If he's our marquee signing though, I worry for us next season

It is a bit galling as well to see ANOTHER Martinez old boy get a job

I have a question.

Do we think Cleverley would have been promised game time? In that, he would be guaranteed game time at Villa, so why would he decide to make that jump? Could be ambition, wages, Martinez effect or many other reasons, but I'd like to see what others feel.

Tom Cleverley playing for Bradford City Youth vs Everton in 1998.

He won't get a better club coming in for him, basically. 5 year deal to keep his feet under the table and then switching clubs in relegation fights/just promoted in his 30s.

I could see him wanting out of Villa because that mini revival which saved their PL status notwithstanding, they are a terrible team which I think will struggle again next season and Sherwood's limitations will once more be exposed.

Mind you.....I suppose if I changed the name of the team and the manager, I could be talking about my own dear team :(

I don't. Barry,Gibson, Pienaar and Osman are all being phased out, Kev wants away every 3 months so will probably go. Besic will probably play more this season than last as he takes up the 'Retirees' slack. Just the final phase of a midfield overhaul to go

It depends on whether Pieanaar or Gibson can stay fit really

Osman will probably still have a sizeable role

Not too bothered with that to be honest so long as he doesn't end up spending 90 minutes out there

For 60 minutes starting or 30 minutes as sub, Osman is a useful player

As far as the poll goes, I think it's too early to say whether he's a good signing or not

I'll wait till we've seen him in pre-season and after he's had some competitive games during the season

On paper he's a good signing, when you look at all the pros/cons.

We would have been foolish not to sign him. Plus he chose us over several other Prem teams. He wants to be here. He could very easily have stayed at Villa. I've read some of their forums - they're very disappointed he didn't stay and are questioning their own clubs ambition and ability to keep good players.

I always remember how Utd fans 'hated' Gibson, and he turned out to be great (when he was actually fit).

as good as they are I think patience has reached breaking point with Gibson/Pienaar, it's not just the wages its the treatment costs. It's a shame as Gibson in the handful of games he did play did improve us. But it's just not worth the effort any more.

Osman on the other hand as you say can still do it for us (as long as he doesn't have to play too much), but he'll be phased out organically and replaced with the younger model, like Barry.
