WE'RE CLEVERTON FC, ROBERTOS BLUE ARMY
What is wrong with:
McCarthy /Besic /Barkley / Cleverley
As four options for two central positions?
Gibson- injured
Osman - one more year
Barry - downhill fast
All out to free up a lot of wages.
But he's not, plays nothing like him. He's basically an older Jordan Henderson.
except he now gets paid three times as much....But he's not, plays nothing like him.
Jordan Henderson is more like James McCarthy than anyone else.

Not really, Henderson for them is just as good as McCarthy is for us, but its blue tinted specs really. In terms of being average permier league midfielders who can do the basics well, run around a lot and make the occasional good pass/score the occasional decent goal.
None of those three will leave this summer except maybe Gibson. Barry gets a lot of stick but when he's on his game we're a much better side, and he was on his game for pretty much all of our unbeaten run. He brings experience to a very youthful midfield which is what we need. Not saying he should be a starter, but I'd definitely keep him in the squad for another year. You can't go out-and-out youth Zat, it just doesn't work like that.

....worth noting that it's not easy getting rid of players sitting on big contracts with years to go.

Perhaps we'll see 433 played more with one of Barry/Besic/McCarthy as the central holding midfielder and two of McCarthy/Barkley/Cleverley/Gibson/Osman used on the left and right in more attacking roles.Still reckon it'll be McCarthy and Barry first choice cm pairing next season. Would prefer McCarthy Cleverley though, but then again he only started playing well for villa when given license to go forward, so unless we forgo an attacking mid altogether, doubt we'll see him at his best.
Can see Roberto slotting him into the attacking mid spot like he did at Wigan to be honest. Better option there than Naismith anyway! Might be a master stroke.
