At the end of the day, its not a terrible move and im very interested in the moves Martinez makes in this window, hes already stated we need a number 10, which seems strange considering we already have 3 within the squad, Barkley, Osman and Naismith, Barkley has struggled for form and is the only 1 I would consider as a true number 10 and up to the demands of playing at the highest level, more and more I think Martinez will look to shift Ross into midfield, on a personal note, I would love to see us line up something like this next season :

Robles
-----------Jags - Stones ----------
Coleman--------------------Baines
McCarthy
Besic----------Barkley
Number 10
Mirallas- Lukaku

Naismith is a number two.

If he signs, it'll be by the end of next week I reckon - if talks are as 'advanced' as they're said to be. Would be nice to have it wrapped up.

Yep, don't understand the moans, he free,British, experience and still young and can play football. His goal against us was sublime. Get rid of Gibson, see if villa want him.

But he also thinks playing Naismith on the wing is viable and Howard should be our goalie next season so he's not exactly infallible.

Martinez values players like Osman and Pienaar precisely because they can keep the ball rolling in possession. Cleverley can do that but he also might be someone who can inject a lot more pace into the final third when he gets on it. He's more prepared than the other two named players to carry the ball when needs must over greater distances.

We can debate whether he's good enough to consistently do that, but I reckon this is Martinez drawing the obvious conclusion that we are too static and predictable when we face opponents in the final third...which is why he'll also go out and get a playmaker to work across the line in behind Lukaku.

Martinez will fix this problem this season or die trying, because he knows his job rests on cracking it.

My main concern is where he'll play. We play a 4-2-3-1. He's not dropping one of his DMs any time soon and if he did Besic should get time before a signing. So is he in the slot behind the striker or a faux winger?

To think; some (Me included) are havin' a laugh at the RS because their primary target's Milner

And then I read some of the shiz on this thread..................

CLEVERLY'S NOT EVEN GOOD ENOUGH TO BE CACK FACTFS. JUST STOP IT WILL YAS?

This utd website reckons he's on £40k a week at Utd

Unless @Moomin actually heard this himself on Talksport I'd say he's mistaken on the £70k a week figure.

The Independent last season just after he signed at Villa on load belive he's only on 30k a week.

After a poor start under Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. Though his £30,000-a-week wages had seemed to be a problem, manager Paul Lambert wanted to press ahead.

All anyone can do it guess, I bet there's articles out there saying he's on double that.

Even just for arguments sake lets say he was previously on 70k a week there's no way the club would be offering him that sort of money especially not 80k like you were suggesting it could escalate to, @Moomin that would probably make him the second highest earner behind only Lukaku presumably, we may do some stupid things at times but we're certainly not that silly!
