So let's get this right, him and his agent know since he has signed his last contract with United that every team in the premiership is getting a record amount from the latest TV deal.

Him and his agent are going to be willing to take a pay cut in the region of 20k.

Come on people, seriously get real here.

Have a look at the history, every new TV deal just causes more money to end up in the players and agents pockets.

Thank god for Cleverly and his agent taking a stand and demanding a wage reduction.

The truth is, he will sign for the team that meets his demands.
Cleverly won't want to take an pay cut, no body does. He hasn't fufilled the potential he had when he signed that contract though. Realisticly he's going to sign with either us or Villa or on the very unlikely case he doesn't he'd sign for a team in a similar standard he's not going to have Champions League teams chasing him. Just because the clubs now have more money than they did a few years ago doesn't mean the player is now more deserving of more money. Manchester before the big tv deals were in a better spot finically than most clubs since the new tv deals anyway.

Villa, us or any other team are not going to offer him that sort of money. It'd make him on of the highest earners at the club and I've got no idea about Villa's salaries but I'd imagine he'd be on the same boat there. Neither club would offer him over 50/55k p/w I'd imagine.

Yes mate there's no way in hell he's going to want to take a pay cut. However he's not going to get offered that sort of money, he can only take the best he's getting offered, it's no different to you and I. if we were looking for work, we want to be taking home way more than what we are but we're only going to be able to go where we've being offered the most money for the skills we've got, yes we could demand a lot more money and go out looking for a job that does pay what we want but that doesn't mean we'd get it infact rarely ever does anyone, we want a job we enjoy, we're suited to and can give us the most money our skills and strenghs can get us. It's exactly the situation Cleverlys in he's looking for a club that suits him, is the best place his skills can get him and to what one of those has to best offer.

whos'se actually arsed about wages though, like it affects any of us in any single way

Just proving a point really, seen a few people say " He's free, it's a no brainer "

I'd rather we go out get the likes of Besic on a cheapish transfer and reasonable wages.

Cleverly even with no transfer fee will be very expensive in the long run.

You dont simply go and get a player like Besic, its not like theres a load of them just lying around.

You need to wait until the Gods grant you them.

And then you stick them on the bench you stupid Spanish CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't really matter what he's on at the moment, just what we can afford to give him and what he's prepared to drop down to for first team football at the club he wants to be at.

His agent will be playing a game of brinkmanship with us , Villa and what ever other club is interested. All it takes is one club to panic and offer him 80k to secure the deal .

If I was his agent, I'd tell him to sit tight and play the waiting game for offers. Play us and Villa off.

Roberto reckons Cleverley is one of the few English players who could pass for having come through the doors of La Masia or the Ajax Academy.

It doesnt even matter what wages hes on when he signs, as long as he performs, thats all thats important.

We get to hung up over transfer fees and wages, im as guilty as anybody, we should just worry about the actual football player.

Is Tom Cleverley what we need? Personally I dont think so, I know he can play in a number of positions and hes a hard working player with brief moments of talent, but hes not as good as the players we currently have, unless hes to replace somebody, it seems a strange move.

But then again, on a "free", its not a complete waste of money, just means likley that Besic would play less :@.

Anyway, Barry is aging, Gibson is actual crocked and Osman isnt getting any younger, if we could somehow get "rid" of 1 of those players I would fully support this move, but as I said, I personally dont consider him better than those 3 players.

At the end of the day, its not a terrible move and im very interested in the moves Martinez makes in this window, hes already stated we need a number 10, which seems strange considering we already have 3 within the squad, Barkley, Osman and Naismith, Barkley has struggled for form and is the only 1 I would consider as a true number 10 and up to the demands of playing at the highest level, more and more I think Martinez will look to shift Ross into midfield, on a personal note, I would love to see us line up something like this next season :

Robles
-----------Jags - Stones ----------
Coleman--------------------Baines
McCarthy
Besic----------Barkley
Number 10
Mirallas- Lukaku

It appears he wants to sign for us, he wants to work with Bobby, he wants to play for us. We want him yes but he also wants to be here it's not like we'll have to throw out a huge contract just to tempt him to come him.

Who's to say he's on 70k a week at Manchester anyways mate, you're just having a guess.
