He played well at Goodison once, back on his Wigan days. I thought he'd go on to have a very decent career.

Martinez will only encourage the sort of conservatism that has turned him into a nothing player in recent years. I think this is a poor move for both him and Everton.

Technical player with a good engine.

Given the fact he has proven he can contribute in spells at Wigan under RM, periods under Ferguson and under Sherwood this season, £50k per week for a 25 year old with 13 caps for England and over 75 games for Man Utd seems perfectly good value, especially given the fact he'll cost us no transfer fee.

Without Pienaar and Osman, we looked horribly devoid of a bit of craft at times last season, so whilst I don't think Cleverley will ever shoot the lights out, I can see him contributing in a number of positions across midfield in a similar way to how Osman has for us (which I still think has been criminally under-appreciated by our fanbase for the last decade).

That is a fantastic post Sir!!

I used that as my Kone hope but it just turns out we played turd that day

I will give him a fresh chance and still believe that Martinez can help turn him into a very good player. For all the criticism me and many others have thrown at Martinez over the last few months, one thing I won't dispute about him is that he is good at raising the confidence of under-performing players (as long as he plays them in their proper positions).

Remember Naismith under Moyes? He was the pariah of Goodison Park, fans everywhere fumed whenever he got on the pitch. Martinez got him to relax and just be himself and the improvement we've seen has been immense. Even on his bad days in the season just gone, Naisy was still no way near as bad as he was during that first year. Hopefully the same can happen with Cleverley.

The only thing I worry about is what position will he play? Every Villa fan says the same, under Lambert he played deep (like Barry) and was utterly gash. Under Sherwood he was allowed to roam (like McCarthy) and his performances drastically improved. Will we alternate between pairings of McCarthy/Barry and Cleverley/Besic?

Considering some of you are so sure he isn't good enough for Everton, can we do a deal that if he turns out as a valuable player that you'll voluntarily leave the forum as a goodwill gesture?

People want us to sign players who are seen to be top class who will power us effortlessly into a Champions League spot.

Unfortunately someone's nicked the change from the back of the couch and we're actually in a position where we're a step down from that. Cleverly's probably good enough to give us a better chance of getting a Europa League spot. I'm happy with that, well, for the moment anyway.
