Blues win the battle for out of contract Manchester United midfielder

Aston Villa's Tom Cleverley celebrates scoring his side's first goal during the Barclays Premier League match at Villa Park, Birmingham.
Everton are set to announce the signing of Tom Cleverley with the midfielder reportedly agreeing a five-year contract to begin on July 1.

The Blues have yet to officially confirm the deal but they have beaten off interest from Aston Villa where Cleverley was on loan this season to land the 25-year-old out-of-contract Manchester United star.

Roberto Martinez will be delighted with Cleverley’s capture as he is a long-time admirer of the player.

He gave Cleverley his first taste of Premier League action five years ago when he moved to Wigan Athletic on loan and wanted to sign him last summer before he went to Aston Villa.

Cleverley was a Villa regular last season and hit form when Tim Sherwood arrived – particularly in the last couple of months when he scored against Manchester City, Everton and West Ham.

I must have missed the protest marches against this signing. Everybody is entitled to their opinon but a vocal minority on a forum chatroom has never represented the voice of the majority of matchgoing Everton supporters.
If/when Cleverly steps onto the pitch at Goodison in the Everton colours he will be cheered to the rafters and as long as he gives of his best that support will stay with him.

There is a reason so many players get infected with the Everton virus and the supporters are a huge part of that. If a player were to gauge support from for a such as this I don't think we would be even able to field a team.

Anyone thinking he'll be a squad filler is deluding themselves. He'll start every week, switching positions with Barkley.

Besic and Osman our best combination of midfielders.... one defensive and one attacking. Perfect balance.

We better hurry up and get it signed, Stoke could swoop in and take him.

As Cleverly once said " Fans in the UK don't appreciate his Spanish style of football " if Mark Hughes and Stokelona bid his Spanish style will fit into the slick stoke style of play.
