The more I think about this, the more I think it's a good signing. In terms of passing he's probably second only to the perma crocked Gibson. Stick him centre mid first game of the season next to Hamez.

Think there's a good chance that next season we'll play 4-1-4-1 like we did against United at Goodison, have Barry and Besic compete for the DM role and McCarthy, Barkley and Cleverley compete for the 2 in front that push forwards. Then get a Pienaar-type creative "number 10" that can play wide and Mirallas (if he stays) on the other side with Lukaku up front.

McCarthy doesn't do forward, Cleverly and Barkley have 0 Assists, so it will be a depressing season if that's the case

Like when he played on the wing and he destroyed Arsenal

On Lukaku this season he was forced to receive the ball in tight areas, as the season went on his touch improved and he is looking a better all round player.

Every player should be forced to improve certain areas of their game each season, improvement should be expected. In trying to improve it shouldn't take away from their strengths, but what it will do is make them more rounded and not a one trick pony.

Lukaku playing on the wings only ever works when we're playing against a side with soft-arsed full-backs who simply can't cope with his physicality. Any LB or RB worth their salt would be able to deal with a big, strong lad charging at them but a few like Arsenal's Monreal who's a pansy couldn't handle him.

Cleverley is not a winger and he's not a deep-lying player either. For me he's similar to McCarthy, an energy-player who likes win to the ball and then release it quickly and occasionally get in the box for attacks. Martinez is best alternating between the two I think, don't think they'd work in the same XI.

Well when we played that system against United McCarthy scored and Barkley assisted a goal, and we won 3-0. I think it would be better than playing with 2 defensive midfielders constantly, we don't need to be that defensive all the time.

Kone Alcaraz Traore Atsu Mcgeady would never have passed a Moyes medical. Still don't know how Gibson sneaked through. We're terrible for injuries and have been for ages.

What's that then. It's clearly not scoring goals or getting assists.

Cleverley playing on the left. Yeah that's just what we need. Another player playing out of position.

What's with all the negativity lads? first week in June and you'd think we were facing relegation in the face.

Re Cleverley, let's just give the lad a chance when the season starts properly - a bit of positivity will make for a more pleasant summer for you as well as everyone else.

Feeling very negative on Everton pretty much as a whole bar a few players from last season.

On Cleverley he deserves a chance to show what he can do like all new signings do. I just hope that Martinez hasn't signed him to play him out of position because square pegs in round holes was a big problem last season.

The lad has got a pass and a shot in him but can he do it week in and week out?

We,ve got enough players who turn up for the cameras or find it hard to put 10 games together of a high sustained quality.
