Tom Cleverly appears to be a confidence player, I'm told.

That's fine, and I'm not against him signing, nor am I against people booing when it's warranted, indeed I've booed many times myself.

However, I hope the majority don't jump on his back ASAP as that may destroy his confidence before his Everton career has begun. Not that we should put up with mediocrity of course, but perhaps a little patience may pay dividends with confidence players?

I suppose we'll see.....

Hes a talented boy, nothing wrong with trying to expand his game, I just think hes a superb DM.

I agree, he is. But I think with how Martinez system works, he prefers to have a deep lying playmaker in there. I think if/when Barks is moved further back, and if McCarthy is still here by that point, then we'll see McCarthy be the holding player more.

This is a good potential signing . He has good technical ability , decent mobility , obviously knows the league and is a good age .

I suspect that Bobby will play him on the left side of midfield , tucked in a la Pienaar.

I dont, if it aint broke and all that.
Lets forget about development of players then
If there has been an improvement in McCarthy's game it is him breaking from midfield and making runs into the offensive positions.
Surely that is something that is part of his development and we should build on.
In today's game you have to have more than just tackling to be good player.

His name can never be uttered in the same breath as that of pienaar

Its like him playing Lukaku on the wing, its square holes in round pegs, you play to the strengths of the players within the squad.

Like when he played on the wing and he destroyed Arsenal

On Lukaku this season he was forced to receive the ball in tight areas, as the season went on his touch improved and he is looking a better all round player.

Every player should be forced to improve certain areas of their game each season, improvement should be expected. In trying to improve it shouldn't take away from their strengths, but what it will do is make them more rounded and not a one trick pony.

Our whole season failed due to people trying to be something they arent.

12months down the drain.

Give me the one trick ponies back.
