Except Cleverley is pretty useless as a winger, to be fair to @madden95 . Yet he starts there every game.

I wonder what the thinking behind this is really. I mean the obvious aspect would be either a slightly more defensive player to help track back and play as a second striker, but he's not good as a striker at all.

Average holding midfielder played as a winger/striker, not really shocking he's not great.
