2018/19 Tom Davies

I'd disagree with you both on this. The worst I hear from the crowd is exasperated groans when he loses the ball and the very very occasional "Koff Davies you knobhead" type shout. Lukaku got the same, does that mean the crowd agreed him not good enough too?

The idea that the crowd is to blame for heaping pressure on players needs putting to bed imo.
Goodison is pretty fair. If you do something good you get applause just for little things - decent cross field ball, strong tackle etc.
If you kill an attack, lose the ball or put us under pressure you get anxious frustration. It's not personal and it's a judgment on that particular moment, not an opinion on a player's overall worth. If a player's going to let this affect them negatively then they probably don't have the mentality to compete at the very top level and need to develop more self belief, determination and a thicker skin.
I wouldn't say this, the atmosphere the last couple years or so has been a bit strange, you won't hear a peep until someone misplaces a pass and a collective groan rings around the stadium. When things are going good obviously the crowd's more forgiving (and hopefully with the team we've put together it will improve) but say we're struggling to make a breakthrough or we're trailing, too often the crowd just gets on the players backs rather than actually encourage them.

The last couple of years has been some of the worst football we've played during the Premier League era, despite spending more money than ever. Richarlison, Walcott, Digne, Gylfi and Bernard all get a brilliant reception from the crowd. That's because they all perform well the majority of the time, you can't expect people to get excited over absolutely dire performances from players.

I disagree. Where do you sit?
To me the crowd seem desperate to get involved and encourage.
If you see no effort, skill or hint of a plan though you can't expect 8 renditions of Royal Blue Mersey by half time.

It's a good job there was no social media when we introduced players like Ratcliffe, Stevens, Steven and Heath into the squad. The 'I want it now' brigade would have hounded them out in no time. Whether Tom makes it is still unknown, but I've seen enough progress in his game this season, particularly at Arsenal, to suggest he's given the chance to develop. The prospect of having a local lad integral to our future can't be underestimated. I hope he has time to take his chance, and if so, he takes it.
The difference between Davies and the four players you mentioned above is they all showed enough for people to reasonably assume they would progress.
Ratcliffe - clearly wasn't a left back but had pace and aggression
Steven - wasn't fit enough at first to last 90 minutes but was classy
Heath -took time to adjust from jump from Stoke to us but always did enough to suggest he would improve
Stevens - his athleticism alone meant he always had a chance of progressing
Davies has played well about three or four times since he came into team and is lucky he is still getting a chance
I know what your saying about giving him time but the four players you mentioned all showed more than he has and ultimately reached their potential (apart from Heath because of injury)

Well the thing is that’s not the reality and that’s a proper load of faecal matter you’ve just typed there isn’t it?
Perhaps if you'd ever bother to watch any of the matches you'd understand. Your lack of reality clouded by your deep love for Tom wont help him retain a place the MOMENT we have another CM available.

I think you confuse love of Tom with hatred of Everton fans. I’ve also watched every match, except Saturday.

Yes, the sad thing with Davies is that he actually looks worse than he did 2 seasons ago. And he was that way last season as well. I love to give young guys many chances, but if they are going to make it they have to show some progress.

Any analysis of Tom Davies must surely consider the wider context of the number of other options available to play in the middle of the park. Sure, he may not be world class... but he's still better than Schneiderlin and McCarthy. £35m worth of bobbins right there, and they need selling and replacing before we worry about young Mr. Davies.

Whatever with the Tom knocking agmonst fans the manager has had him as Captain more than once this season. Silva does not strike me as a man who is mugged off easily, he certainly rates Davies... Tom had to endure for me the worst period of football over the last year just as he broke through, says lots about him as young man to even carry on after Koamen and Allardyce era.

It's hard for any young player to progress in a struggling team - but once he's been played by for 2-3 seasons or so he's no longer inexperienced regardless of his age. This season is make or break for him otherwise he will just end up a journeyman. I want him to progress but I'm sick of the he's a local lad etc ....so what! if he was from elsewhere he wouldn't be given the slack he's had as he's been awful.

I think the people who watch the matches will realise we look a better team when he plays.. If you put any of the other CM's in there alongside Gana then we look awful. You can either take that as him being good or the others being absolutely awful. It's up to you really. I don't think there is much point moaning about him because atm he seems to do a job that no other fit player in the squad does, Gomes you would imagine would be eased into Tom's position when he is fit but until then Tom is starting and should be starting.

He does somethings well and others not so well, but he is 20 which really means he's about 7 years from his prime. He's doing fine in my opinion to be a good squad player in future seasons and if he pushes on then it can only be a good thing. Unless you written him off when he was 19 and now you can't say how right you were to a bunch of faceless people on an internet forum. (Not entirely aimed at you.) Which is the sad reality for some people on here.

All spot on, a very fair and accurate summary of the situation.
