TBH ...needs more playing time. Bit unfair to criticize him after playing once in 8 weeks ?! Is he good enough ? Who knows ? Lad needs a loan and needs to be playing 90 min every week to develop his game. He certainly wasn't our worst today .....and many of those have far more minutes and experience !

I don’t like Davies, I don’t think he offers enough going forwards, or even in defence, but to [Poor language removed] him off yesterday is just a bit harsh tbh.

Yes, he stunk the place out, but when did he last play? Fulham? Arsenal? How can a lad improve if he’s not getting a game? Throwing him in, in the deep end against a good team like Spurs was suicide. Making him stand on the edge of the box for their goal kicks was even more so.

If the lad isn’t getting minutes, he won’t improve. We’re lacking depth, but Davies on loan would be a move I’d be looking to make in January.

...a lack of games is an obvious issue for a player returning from a lengthy injury but it shouldn’t be an excuse for super-fit professionals replicating game time on a daily basis in training. Being ready when called upon is their job, it’s what they’re trained for.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t get the point in sending 1st teamers on loan. There is an assumption they are going to stand-out at another club, the same assumption that was given to Galloway and Garbutt who have gone steadily backwards on lengthy and expensive contracts. It would be folly sending him to a Premiership club who we are in competition with, so the only alternative is Championship or abroad.

You use your first teamers or you sell them. From what Silva said recently, it appears Davies is a player he wants to use.

He's not put in a decent performance since his first season

With each game he plays it becomes more and more apparent that he’s a Chamionship player.

I truly hope he hasn’t signed that 60K a week five year contract we’re upposed to be offering him, as that would put him out of range of most Championship clubs.

We need another centre mid now as a matter of urgency.

Imagine if both Gomes and Gaye weren’t available at the same time, we’d be back to Koemans midfield.

* McCarthy isn’t the answer either.

...by the look of things, Gueye and Gomes will not be available for the next games.

He’s made over 60 appearances for us! I’m not sure how much more playing time he could have had. It’s amazing how many excuses people give this absolutely shocking footballer.

In a side where the keeper conceded 6 goals, I'm not sure this is much to defend him with.

Lacks a single area of strength in his game. He's truly abysmal.

Was going to post this exact comparison. He’s precisely the equivalent.

Davies is in the Premier League by default as he got a chance via a youth academy at a club that is far more generous than most (often it’s needs must by throwing in youth players) at giving young players a shot in the first team, but a club that also persists with youth players for much longer than other clubs as the club is usually hovering around mid table so there isn’t that drastic need to bring in better.

Within maybe two or three games of seeing Davies, I said championship player. Never in a million years is he Premier League level. If he played for another club you wouldn’t look at him and think, “wish we’d buy him”, hence no other Premier League club would. Watching top end Championship games this season, there’s players with vastly more talent than him, and no doubt there are in the lower divisions also.

Won’t call the lad “useless”, “bang average” etc, as these disparaging labels are unfair. He’s just not a Premier League level player. He’s lived the dream and massively overachieved by playing in the Premier League, aided by the circumstances I’ve mentioned. Spearing got his chance at Liverpool at a period in time when they were hovering around seventh, a position we constantly hover at hence there is a conveyor belt of Spearings here. Davies has hit the jackpot in being at the one club above all that gives lesser talented players a chance, and then persists with them. When he leaves he will find his level at a lower league club and that will be it for him.

Spot on. I think he's actually benefited from us being a decent team who tend to control games, especially at home. It masks how limited he really is.

If he dropped down to the Championship I think he would still struggle. There are no features to his game that I think would make him excel at that level. Physically weak and passing limited, it's not great for your centre mid.

He will probably get two more years here and then the game will be up.

was terrible but lets get it right so was gomes , sure it was gomes who just let his man jog past him to score the rebound on the second or third goal, just lazy

Gomes was poor but if we are being honest that was the case against Watford and City as well. The jury is still very much out in him despite everyone getting carried away early on.
