The club will be seeking an overall profit on Tom. He came from the academy and because of timing got his chance. It is clear now after a few seasons he isn't at the level we require. I wonder who will take him if he still wants his 40k/week boy ransom?

Tbh id forget about him ever playing in midfield, he just does'nt have the skillset imo. I would like to see him moulded into a fullback and eventually takeover from Coleman. He certainly has the engine/fitness for it and is still young enough to learn the position.

...it’s a fair suggestion, but I don’t think he’s got the raw acceleration required for that position in the modern game.

Regardless, something must surely be amiss with his continued absence from match day squads.

File under Dowell, Baningime etc etc. Not good enough for us but will be OK for a championship side or newly promoted premiership side.

He start off really well, a mini pitbull bursting with enthusiasm in midfield. 3 awful managers totally destroy his developing years. I’m not surprise if he does not even know what type of midfielder he is suppose to be.

Davies, DCL, Lookman, Benni, dowel went through the same situation, we have to question. Did we, as a club, failed to develope them or are they all not good enough?

Packed footy in and has opened up a boutique in L

They`re all not good enough.

What's going on in this thread.? Everybody was moaning when he was starting, so we improved our midfield and he gets to start most games on the bench. People still moan when he comes on, when invariably he does a decent job following the managers instructions. So we improve the squad even more and he finds himself not good enough to make the match day squad. So now people start saying we should sell him and those that want to have a dig have to do so at his lifestyle as they are no longer able to criticise his football because he isn't playing.

Why can't you just accept the fact that Davies is still young enough not to have to be picked in our premier league squad. That's because he is still developing FFS. He is a decent squad player for us and will see game time this season during peak periods and if we are unlucky with injuries. That's exactly what squads are for. As a club our stature is not big enough to have top quality cover in every position as we couldn't possibly keep them all happy, so we need young players like Tom to make up our squad numbers. Last I heard he isn't a disruptive influence in the dressing room, and neither does he go 24 hour binges or go around poking gangsters girlfriends.

So please just give the lad a break. He may not be good enough to be a regular starter for us, and that is no shame for a 21 year old, but he's an integral part of our squad. Hopefully he will improve, but if he doesn't then eventually his place in the squad will be taken by another young player brought in or up through the system. The alternative is to bring in some journeyman who is just here for the money and couldn't give a toss about the club or the fans.

Not harsh, on the money imo. He is clearly a talented footballer, you dont anywhere near a PL team if you arnt. But the question he needs to ask himself is what sort of footballer he actually is. Or indeed wants to be.

Not for a minute comparing him to these players, more what they were, as midfielders.

A Viera/Keane enforcer? Nope.

A Lampard goalscorer? Nope.

A Scholes creator? Nope.

A Kante/Guyee destroyer? Maybe.

A Barry? Maybe.

Tough one for the lad. He has a bit of all of the Maybes, but like, not enough. Not yet anyrate.

How about a Milner? He’s not at that level, but if he works on his strength then he MIGHT be a decent Prem player.
