I am glad he's been given a break, he's very young and played a lot of football, his body is going through changes, won't do him any harm not listening to the collective sighs.

he really really needs a loan tbh.

....sending Academy players on loan is a popular pre-occupation on here, but it rarely works. If a player is out of favour and if a player is not in the Managers plans, he needs to be sold.

There is an assumption that players on loan progress and return to us ready for the first team, but the reality doesn’t support that view. We should move players on when their stock is highest.

Isn’t it happening the way it should now? That a team challenging for Europe at the top end of the prem has international midfielders in the 11 rather than teenage midfielders. Shouldn’t Davies be coming off the bench for a club like us rather than being thrust into the starting 11 because all his senior counterparts have failed abysmally?

He had a breakout half season where he did well in a team playing well. In my opinion he then stood up to be counted in 17/18 when not many others could claim that. I’m not saying he played brilliantly but given he was a teenager and we had the likes of Klaassen Rooney Siggurdson Gueye Schneiderlin McCarthy Besic on the books he shouldn’t have had to carry as much of the work as he did. He ended up in the team though because he showed a lot more than some of those names did.

Last season he played a lot as well due again to a lack of options and a drop of form from other players. Maybe Silva feels it’s time he just eased back on the workload for a bit, studied one role rather than putting a shift in all over the place, be a tactical option off the bench and play with a bit of freedom knowing that he’s not carrying a whole midfield, have the chance to learn from Gomes and Delph.

Maybe then we’ll see that midfielder again who was audacious enough to slalom Ya Ya Toure and chip Bravo, who looked to thread through balls like he did for Niasse a few times, who seemed to have a level of aggression other midfielders didn’t match. Rather than one fatigued through playing too much in too many positions under too many managers carrying the weight of the team on him.

If he goes on loan, I'm afraid he would find his level. Don't think for a minute he would be bossing midfields in the Championship.

...I really don’t get this ‘Championship level’ quote that I read regularly applied to these pages. Managers have different team models, and a certain player might just fit the way he wants to play regardless of league the team is in.

I imagine Everton players categorised on here as ‘Championship’ level will be in demand from Premier League teams as well as top flight clubs abroad.

I don't think its as simple as saying the loan system does or doesn't work, it depends on each individual player, there are loads of examples of players going out on loan and going on to be successful for their parent club, Pickford had loads of loans when he was younger as did players like Harry Kane and David Beckham

....of the multitude of Everton Academy players sent on loan over the past 30 years, I can only think of Osman and Barkley who have gone on to make 50 appearances for us, and both of those suffered major injuries at a critical stage of their youth development.

Davies is a bit different to the players you quote because he’s already a first teamer, having been part of the squad for two seasons. I can’t think of anybody in Davies situation who has gone on loan and played a large number of games for us. I might be wrong (Coleman not coming through the Academy and going out relatively soon after joining us).

The Manager wants access to the players he rates.

He struggles in one of the better teams in the Premier League. What makes you think he would excel in a team below us? Point being, if you put him in a bottom half Championship team I think he would struggle.
