Well it will if he doesn't improve and continues to play in half our games won't it? Ideally he'll improve and be a great option to have, but if he doesn't then yes, having below average players playing regularly will harm our chances of competing at the top end. I'm not sure how you can even dispute that to be honest, it's a pretty basic point.

Because he is already good enough to play a decent chunk of matches for a squad competing on numerous fronts. He is an OK Premier League player and very good value for money.

In this scenario he isn't the starting central midfielder, but say a 4th option.

We are really stretched financially, we need to improve the first XI where we can and keep options that are good value for money in the squad.

Maybe in the championship

Not really. If he's as good as you say then strictly from a financial point of view the best option would definitely be to sell him. I'd say to properly get among the top 6 we need 2 new central midfielders. If we then have Davies, Gbamin and Gomes on top of that then Davies would easily make the most profit for FFP. You're talking £15/£20m of pure profit, it'd be a no brainer. That argument hasn't worked out very well for you has it?

Do you think that’s a significant amount of playing experience for a young player? 13 games.
What are you talking about? I assumed you were talking about just this season, because that's what the post you quoted was about? I didn't say we should cast him aside, I said he needs to improve, and if he doesn't we can't keep asking him to start more than half our games, because he's not good enough to get us higher up the league. I didn't say he can't or won't do that, just that he needs to. The lad's 21 and has played over 100 games for us, and you don't think we've played him enough?

I’m saying that he’s still learning his trade. He’s young for his position. Judge him when he’s 25 and he’s starting to come into his prime.

How many managers has he had? Over how many seasons? He’s not 22 for a couple of days. It’s amazing how quickly people write players off.

He plays probably the toughest position on the pitch.

??????????
