So you want two new starting midfielders rather than one? Pushing Gomes out of the side?

This extra starting midfielder we are getting.

How much are we having to spend to get them?

And what are their wages?

I think we make one central midfield signing, with Gomes alongside them. Delph, Gbamin and Davies to support.
I think Gomes is very talented, but his performances for us have been nowhere near good enough to suggest that he should be a guaranteed starter if we’re genuinely looking to push on. He’s miles better than our other options but that leads me back to the original point...

He’s had as many bad games as good for us in my opinion. If he can become more consistent then it’s a different story but that’s a huge if.

I’m not talking fantasy football here, I don’t expect us to get 2 new centre mids this summer, but I would expect 1 and then another 1 next summer if the current options haven’t shown significant improvement.

The point was really that Davies would have been seen as a squad player this season, and yet he’s started over half our games and got on the pitch in 3/4 of them. And our midfield has been shocking all season. So if he doesn’t improve and plays a similar amount next season, we’ll have the same problem. On that basis I wouldn’t say him playing was the least of our problems.

I can see where you are coming from.

I am leaning heavily on what Brand's said a few days ago about only bringing in 2/3 players and nothing extravagant.

I think right wing is the first priority, as we only have Walcott.
Secondly, central midfield, as even though we have lots of options the quality isn't there/
Thirdly, I think we need another centre half.

If we went beyond that, I would look at right back.

And then, I would look at another central midfielder.

Yeah I’d agree with the positions but central midfield is way out in front as the key area to improve for me. Having a great right winger wouldn’t actually improve us much at the moment because we’d never get them the ball. The only game all season that I can remember us properly dictating and just being in control of In midfield is West Ham at home, which, to be fair to him, Davies played his part in. We have to improve massively on that if we’re going to get better.

Yesterday was a decent performance from everyone; the other lot have rolled over almost everyone in the league and through a disciplined performance we kept them out. Davies was inches away from giving us the win - can't fault the lad for putting in a shift yesterday.

I'd start with the same team against Norwich and I'm sure we'll be more attacking and expectations higher.

You look at Phil Foden for Man City at 20 and then look at Tom Davies at 22 and there is no comparison. There’s still people saying Davies needs time because he’s young but I don’t think he’s had a performance like Foden tonight in an Everton shirt.

He needs a loan out to prove he’s got what it takes to make a contribution for this club.

Spot on - sell him now

Is right that Richarlson is not a patch on Naymar get shut.

Ridiculous to compare an alright squad player to one of the worlds best in the age group and use that as a measuring stick to get rid.
They’re two players who have game through the academies of their respective clubs. It is a relevant comparison to make. Davies is older and hasn’t progressed one bit since his debut for the club. He isn’t a squad player, either, sadly we have Davies starring games on a regular basis.

Foden has made 4 Premier League starts and would run rings around Davies, despite the latter having a shed load more experience.

Also, who’s to say Richarlison won’t be as good as Neymar has been?

Why do people always say get rid? Surely you keep until we have at least enough better players ahead of him?

Davies is really struggling to deliver on his early promise but as things stand none of the options at CM are particularly much better than him.

Tbh I'd sooner keep Davies before I would Schneiderlin and Delph, both on big wages, Schneiderlin turns up 1 in 10, Delph is a tit and sicknote. At least with Davies you have a player who is young, can still improve, doesn't lack the effort many of our players do.

If after the next few transfer windows we have 2/3 undoubtedly better CMs and Davies is still struggling should we look to move him on.

It's an unfair comparison...

Two entirely different players playing for two entirely different teams...
