Davies development was really harmed with all the managerial changes.
Having a manager who believes in him and can use him more intelligently will help hip develop. He is still only 22, so loads of scope to learn.

Tbh I agree. I think it’s had a massive effect on a lot of players. Hopefully with stability we can see continued improvement. He needs to get a bit smarter in his decision making and his positioning but I think he can be a decent squad player.
You’d think though, unless he can improve, he’ll have less and less game time as we recruit others.

If he can’t kick on now, under the tutelage of Ancelotti, he never will.
However, I think Ancelotti is improving him.

DCL was harmed too, now we're seeing the results, and Holgate, Davies, Pickford will all come good and with Godfrey too we'll have a strong spine for a few years!
Loads of scope to learn and if he was trusted by Koeman and made captain by Silva, he must have something about him, just that we don't see it nearly enough

I so want him to succeed, but he struggled in a really poor midfield last year. This year I feel his limited appearances have been more controlled. Perhaps he is maturing.

Tom Davies will improve & become a competent premier league player...

He can continue to progress under the stewardship of Ancelotti & improve playing & learning from the likes of Allan etc etc...

I think Tom has a football brain but lacks the physicality to take his game to the next level.

The difference between him and the likes of Calvert Lewin Godfrey Holgate Iwobi etc. Is that they all have the pace and physicality to compete in this league. Davies like Kenny won’t ever make it as a top player in a top 6 team because they are simply too slow. That’s not to say either can’t do a job in certain tactical shapes off the bench but we saw last season that if Davies plays in a midfield two he’ll get overrun by even average premier league midfielders.

Probably more true of Kenny. Davies is 5 10/11 but just hasn't got much stronger since 18, or doesn't appear to have.

It’s not even strength, it’s pace, it’s the difference between fouling an opposition player with your second touch or being fouled. The benchmark in this league unfortunately at the moment are Fabinho Henderson Wijnaldum. None of these three are particularly classy on the ball but all of them are absolute machines who sprint quickly and have physical power. In the past we’ve been going up against them with a midfield two of Davies and Siggurdson. Even if they won the ball back they couldn’t get to their own second touch before being swamped again. Allan and Doucoure are a step in the right direction and hopefully Gbamin will add to that also but the days of a Fabregas type of midfielder strolling around and spraying balls about are over. Mourinho Guardiola and Klopp have changed the game now. Pace and power are king to give the team a platform to then play football. We can’t carry the likes of Kenny Sigurdsson Davies against these sort of teams and expect to win consistently. we need players like Godfrey who will match Mane step for step and stay in a physical tussle with him for 95 minutes until he eventually got fed up which is what happened in the Goodison derby. Imagine Kenny having to deal with Son one on one? Davies v Kante? Sigurdsson trying to run past Fabinho. It’s men v boys stuff and is the reason our record in away games was terrible.

DCL Richarlison Doucoure Allan Godfrey Holgate - yes

Kenny Davies Tosun Sigurdsson Coleman - no.

He hasn't learned the basics yet?
He’s been played as a DCM, ACM, RW and RB.

it’s interesting that a less experienced player is expected to be more versatile than the seasoned pros.

He has had some poor spells in a very poor midfield, but no worse than the other more experienced players. He does need to learn and improve, but at 22, nes worth the punt.
