Get your point but looking at John stones last weekend and the nature of this league. I think we can have a bit of both tbh , look at alethico* they have loads of technically gifted youngsters playing in a very physical team (although it is la liga)
Their style is set though, dont you think?

I would get as many of the better ones out on loan as we can, pre-season is normally when the good ones mix with the first team, and the more they play competitively the better it will be for them.

Lookman is young but he's played a fair bit in a tough league, the type of player he is, he will have been booted around in that league so should be prepared at least for the physicality of the PL.

Spot on mate. People were concerned with Connolly loan to Wigan. Honestly it's a fantastic loan for him and Everton. Playing for a hugely respected former youth coach at Manchester United in a tough league. Young players in the end do need games.

It's not a strange argument at all. To argue for continuity in a style of play isn't to argue for the very same approach to defending.

Most great teams find their style and dont tinker with it. They tweak it and refine it; throw out parts of it that dont work...managers too if need be. But dont make a volte face on your identity as a club. If you do that every few seasons you are lost and confused as to what the hell it is you should be trying to achieve.

We shouldn't be going from direct route one football to possession football and then back to route one football. What sort of basket case club does that willingly?
But we were crap in most departments under your mate,so it was a tweak it was a rebuild.

It's why I hate a change in style from control of the ball to gaining territorial advantage. It can obliterate the careers of young players at a club at a stroke...talents that have been nurtured to play a certain way.

In theory this is what a D0F has to be employed for: to head hunt new mangers who can carry on a system/style already in place and improve on it.

Yes the problem is the DOF and manager appointed same season which isn't ideal. I'll say two things on this. Firstly I wouldn't be surprised if Unsworth is our next manager (and will be successful at it). Secondly while Walsh is a very talented DOF he specialises in player identification. I am not sure he will excel in manager identification. I do wonder if someone like David Dein may come on board to help in that regard. If you've got a fella who can spot Drogba, Zola, Mahrez, Vardy etc why waste him doing things that aren't his strength?

I agree on change of style, it's a tough spot for young players. Let me put something to you though Dave. How far do you think our style is now closer to what Royle and even Kendall had at Everton? Is there an inevitability that most Evertonians want direct, intense aggressive football?

....other than Barcelona perhaps, clubs tend to acquire the best manager they can employ and leave it to them to manage change. Klopp's Liverpool play a different style to his predecessor, Mourinho is different to LVG, Poccetino has brought his own style to Spurs just as he did at Soton. I think the last thing Moshiri thought when he sacked Martinez was to get another Martinez in.

I also think we need to see what the RK style is before we call it 'hoofball'. There's no doubt we are playing longer ball game at the minute but let him bring his own players in. Regardless, if the performances are like last week I doubt many will complain.

Nah, it's not exceptional. Arsenal haven't changed their core values for almost two decades; Liverpool still play the same way by defending from the front, possession game as they have for most of the past 30 odd years; United always play with a lot of energy and an emphasis on wing-play etc etc

We had ours for a long time too: get it down, ball to feet, dont bypass midfield, and a great winger/centre forward combination.

WTF ours is now under this mush I have no idea.

....I'm not sure about the shape either but I get the impression it's not complicated. I think he demands the mix of hard work and quality, which is perhaps finding one or two out. As they say, there's more than one way to skin an onion so I'm not passionate about the 'how', if we achieve success and if we can go to top clubs and beat them on a regular basis then I'll be happy.

If I was a seasoned pro or even in amateur football & had seen Davies last week first thing I would do is stick one on him. Palace & allardyce will definitely do this.

The youth team posters on here all say he doesn't shirk when it gets tasty hopefully he keeps his head early doors today should have been boooked last week in the first half.

cabeye is an absolute snide of the highest order & will try every trick in the book.
