....I'm not sure about the shape either but I get the impression it's not complicated. I think he demands the mix of hard work and quality, which is perhaps finding one or two out. As they say, there's more than one way to skin an onion so I'm not passionate about the 'how', if we achieve success and if we can go to top clubs and beat them on a regular basis then I'll be happy.

I think the style is one forged by adapting to the opposition's strengths from game to game rather than us having a clear identity. That;s unsustainable as far as I'm concerned.

Apart from the fact that he's only just recently said that he's only bothered about how we play and not the other team?

...I'm seeing that too but I think there will ultimately be a baseline approach that is largely generic with tweaks depending on who the opposition are. I'm not particularly defending Koeman but I think he needs time before we truly define his style and whether it's a success or not.

If we had a clear identity mate we'd be getting found out every game , he needs to change the tactics for each game because every team has its strengths and weaknesses mate . We're still rubbish at defending crosses that's a weakness that will be getting played on today mate

So, just coach the defence! It shouldn't be difficult for him should it? I mean he is feted as a great defender, so wtf is he doing all week besides playing golf?

All no doubt true. Although bad injuries can affect some players longer than others, and he had a bad one IIRC...and just as he was threatening to make a breakthrough. I can only say that from what I've seen of him he is clearly a talent. First touch is superb and he knows where the ball's going next before he receives it. Those are the qualities you look for.

I haven't seen Kenny or Walsh so cant comment.
He came back after that injury last year and had an excellent second half to the season. You can actually see the growth in the lad and I can understand why this would affect his form this season. I remember Gerrard having similar problems when he was 20ish.

You're spot on though Dave. His touch and awareness is exceptional. Got a great dead ball on him too. Everything we're missing at the moment in the first team. Puts a shift in too. My main concern is that he is too often on the periphery in games and doesn't influence them as he should. This has stood out on the few occasions I've seen him at senior level. He's still only 19 though. Maybe a loan will benefit him but it needs to be to the right sort of team. Maybe Barnsley.

Walsh is a proper footballer. He may be small in stature but he's not scared to put his foot in and I reckon he could hold his own, and would love to see him given an opportunity in the first team. He trains with the first team so is obviously in Koemans mind.

Spot on mate. People were concerned with Connolly loan to Wigan. Honestly it's a fantastic loan for him and Everton. Playing for a hugely respected former youth coach at Manchester United in a tough league. Young players in the end do need games.
Kenny had a couple of loans last season whilst Connolly stayed with the under 21s. Definitely needed as part of his development imo.

Willing to wager that come season end we will not only finish higher than the previous 2 years but also would have conceded a lot less that for me is positive coaching.

Sounds like you have a good grasp of the situation mate.

I never like to see players go out on loan. I know some have done that and come back in again, but I think the tendency of the loaning club is to offload if they can. It'll be a real shame if the wheel has turned on player types required now and we see the likes of him leave.

If I was a seasoned pro or even in amateur football & had seen Davies last week first thing I would do is stick one on him. Palace & allardyce will definitely do this.

The youth team posters on here all say he doesn't shirk when it gets tasty hopefully he keeps his head early doors today should have been boooked last week in the first half.

cabeye is an absolute snide of the highest order & will try every trick in the book.
I think from what I've seen of him so far he has a nice bit of snide about him himself. I don't think he'll be troubled on that score personally.

No doubt, thought he looked more comfortable and more technical than Davies. He'll get his chance once his form picks up, he'll be looking to holgate and Davies and be aware that the chances are there

Don't agree with loans for loans sake. Or too many either. But I do think that exposing youngsters to open age football whilst still in their teens is an important part of their development. Some of our best youngsters in recent years, Stones, Holgate, Galloway and, more recently, Lookman and DCL, came from lower leagues where they played first team football at an early age.

I'm pretty sure Dowell would have gone out last season had he not had that bad injury so I think a loan to the right club will help him now. Don't think he's quite ready for the first team yet for the reason mentioned in my previous post.
