As nice and genial as I am away from Everton :) ,at the match I turn into an angry ,invective strewing demon of hate(unless we're winning of course) and make a mistake in front of of me and I'll tell you what I think of your abilities. Let them find their feet and in the process learn to disregard idiots like me is the way to go.

I always wondered how many of the posters on here were that type of fan when at the game.

please stop. cheers

Maybe so but we really don't know that. I assume the manager who sees them every day knows if they are ready or not. He did include them in pre season so its not like he hasnt had a look at them. he may think that its better for their progression to have them in an Under 23 team that is currently doing well rather than dropping them into his team right now that is struggling a bit.

People go on about managers not wanting to give youth a chance (it has been levelled at Koeman in the past) but I find it hard to beleive that any manager thinks that way as its their job on the line. If he thinks they are ready then I have no doubt that he would be picking them.

That argument assumes the manager is always right though, which we know isn't the case

At the end of the day, it's about having the guts to give the kid a chance

Is Koeman brave enough to give Davies the chance, knowing he'll get it in the neck if it goes wrong?

Men like Alex Ferguson were brave enough to play unproven kids, which is what he did with the famed "Class of 92"

Certain people on here have called Koeman cowardly, playing Davies would be a great way for him to silence those cries IMO

I can just no longer countenance the "manager sees him training" argument for these sort of debates. It's lazy and cliched. The best managers will know that it's about more than just what you see on a training pitch

.....it's about judgement. The manager and coaches judgement won't always be right but I don't particularly think it's about 'bravery', especially when RK doesn't seem overly enamoured with his squad. Davies has certainly looked the part and RK speaks glowingly of him. I just can't see any manager not picking a youngster if he doesn't think he'll improve the team. At this point, I assume RK prefers Barry and Gueye.

Think the issue some have is that he prefers cleverley as well mate.

Barry and Gueye are obviously ahead of him and would be a bit mental to even think Davies should start instead of either.

...yep, he tends to chuck Cleverley in ahead of Davies but it's not that long ago he was starting games for England. I get the logic, though, perhaps Davies should be next cab on the rank but it's RKs judgement that counts.

To be fair Cleverley played well against West Ham when he came on and deserved a chance against Chelsea. Also would have been a lot to ask Davis to start against a top Chelsea side. In the end though he came on as a sub and that's the 3rd time this season he's been subbed on, and each time has been longer than the last.

Fair enough, but after getting that chance and how he looked and maybe as importantly how badly Barry looked paired with him then now Davies deserves his chance this Saturday.

Is essentially my point

If Gaz The Baz or Gana are out for whatever reason, Davies then goes in IMO

Totally agree, in an ideal world we would have a third centre mid as good as gana, but we haven't and that makes it the perfect situation to blood Davies and see how he takes the chance, as a club we have a bad habit of constantly putting off playing younger players until they simply leave the club at 22/23 or younger, the attempt to buy the utter journeyman rb from saints was worrying for the future of the young players imo, as it effectively would remove any chance for kenny as an example, in favour of giving games to someone who is proven as mediocre at best.

Kenny, Davies and Dowell all need serious minutes this season to avoid the serious risk of fading away.

My problem with Cleverley is that he hides when the game is not going our way. He is an awful player when the odds are stacked against you.
I would much sooner see some of the younger lads get the opportunity to grow into a responsible 1st team player.
The majority of the elite players had to fail at first to reach the level they are at now (Bale a prime example).
I do not see the likes of TC improving their game, and if we do have ambitions of trying to compete with the best, then a different approach is required than seeing the same old faces making the same game execution.

To me, Cleverley is the last gasp player you stick in once everyone else is unavailable due to injury/suspension/being Darron Gibson

In that scenario, Davies is below Jimmy Mac, Barry and Gana in the pecking order, but next after them. When you consider the fixture scheduling during Christmas especially, that would mean he'd probably get a decent amount of minutes, because we're going to rotate the squad with so many games so close together

The Cleverley comparison is an interesting one. I generally think Cleverley is a decent player in a winning team, but won't change a game as discussed. However he will press, keep the ball moving and get around the pitch to help Barkley. I still live in hope he could see an Adam Lallana style transformation from neat and tidy crab to box to box presser but I am yet to be convinced.

Davies does cover the pitch well but I don't think he's quite as fit as Cleverley, hence why he was in. However against Swansea at home it would be nice to see him get a start.

Think Lallana playing in the middle suits him so much. Would be perfect in our team, incredibly annoying that he plays for them.
