Think Lallana playing in the middle suits him so much. Would be perfect in our team, incredibly annoying that he plays for them.

Last season when Cleverley had a little renaissance (the decent 3-4 game run we had around Stoke away) and he played in a more advanced role I felt he was our Lallana. He was a player who would mirror the quality of team he was in quite well and oddly probably not look out of place in a top team but in a struggling team rarely makes them better.

His form tailed off. He has a lot of similar attributes to Lallana though; notably they both have a good engine, chip in with goals, can be creative, can tackle and are quite intelligent footballers. Under Klopp Lallana has really gone onto the next level, he has got fitter and been given a platform to play his naturally game. I am not convinced we will see this from Cleverley which is a shame but there's potential in there.

Think that's a fair analysis. Also both similar builds and age as well.

I think part of the problem with Cleverley, is that he’s been played pretty much everywhere and in a whole host of different styles. I personally don’t think he’s that bad, but does look so much better when we are playing well. I would be interested to see how we would fare if he was given more licence to get forward and around Lukaku. Not in the strict sense of a “10” but just taken off the leash a bit.

I actually think one of the main issues with our team is Barry having to play every game and the team built/catered around him. Meaning as good as Barry is, the team can often look disjointed due to how deep Barry sits.

Think the issue some have is that he prefers cleverley as well mate.

Barry and Gueye are obviously ahead of him and would be a bit mental to even think Davies should start instead of either.

Yeh this is bang on, the issue I have is that Davies isn't 3rd choice. I don't expect him to start over Gueye or Barry but I do expect him to start over McCarthy and especially Cleverley. I don't even dislike the latter 2 players as much as some do on here but I feel strongly that Davies should be in front of them, or at least given a decent chance to be.

The manager clearly rates Cleverley...gave him the captain's band twice in the preseason. While I don't necessarily agree, the obvious view is that the manager rates him. He's shown nothing to say otherwise.

We got 72 points with Osman finding the pitch in all 38 games, so who the hell knows, ya know?

Anyway, Tom Davies..... I thought RK's recent interview where he discussed Davies was very realistic - non of " a phenomenal future" we may have had in the past and Unsy's remarks are, of necessity given his position, usually over positive, which is no bad thing but RK's comments but things into perspective.
. They need to know we believe in them , but they need to be patient
. He ( Davies) is gaining a lot training with the first team and seeing the level he needs to be at.
. He needs game time every week at his age , so U23s games will be used.
. By seeing them in training and how they are developing " ...this way we will take the best ones."

He's still got a lot of developing and learning to do, but he looks like he's got the temperament and skill set to handle the move up a level if he's given time.

Totally agree, in an ideal world we would have a third centre mid as good as gana, but we haven't and that makes it the perfect situation to blood Davies and see how he takes the chance, as a club we have a bad habit of constantly putting off playing younger players until they simply leave the club at 22/23 or younger, the attempt to buy the utter journeyman rb from saints was worrying for the future of the young players imo, as it effectively would remove any chance for kenny as an example, in favour of giving games to someone who is proven as mediocre at best.

Kenny, Davies and Dowell all need serious minutes this season to avoid the serious risk of fading away.

That approach for curacao or whatever his name is from Saints just pointed at koeman not knowing or not wanting to play a young RB.

Good god I cannot disagree with this post more!

Dr David France and Ronny Goodlass both saying the lad is ready, they reckon he needs to be playing right now too. I couldn't agree more. So what if he sinks rather than swims? At least we'll know either way, and 1 win in 9 is hardly form to keep him out of the team.

He will probably end up going out on loan in January for experience, especially if we sign Schneiderlin.
