Evening fellas. A draw was a fair result in the end. Thought we might knick it late on but it was not too be. Getting a point off a good Everton side with 4-5 first teamers missing is no disgrace.
Amazed we didn't get our first pen of the season from at least one of those handballs but nevermind.

We both live to fight another day.

I think Heitinga and Gibson patrolled the midfield brilliantly, breaking up the play and finding the outlet.....
And Baines, ace as usual when attacking..... but you are whining about the goal, but he got stripped and was out of position a few times, caught too far upfield it was great to see him against Kyle Walker, who should be No1 for england.

We must have been watching different games. I don't think Heitinga and Gibson played three decent forward passes between them in the entire game. And Baines did almost no attacking whatsoever, because he had no-one to work the triangles with as he normally does with Pienaar.

Yeh it was a fair result i think. One which suits you better than us.Didn`t realise you hadn`t had a penalty all season.

Moyes got it wrong from the start imo should of been

Howard

Neville Jagielka Distin Baines

Coleman Gibson Osman Mirallas

Jelavic Anichebe

this would of meant osman in the middle, Kev and coleman running down the flanks and baines getting the chance to get forward aswell, Nev would of offered coleman free reign to attack on the right hand side aswell, but oh well....

That would mean Neville being on the pitch, though.

Spot on.

1) We played poorly in the first half but scored from a well-executed set piece.

2) In the second half we did nothing to protect Baines and Coleman from being pegged back deep and therefore they both ceased to be factors in the attacking play. Moyes had seen this unfold in the first half and did nothing to correct it.

3) Heitinga, Osman and Gibson offered NOTHING in attack. In fact, they couldn't even maintain possession and move the ball upfield. Heitinga starting in midfield was a tactical mistake and although I can't fault his defensive work it doesn't mean it was the right choice to play him in that position. Hitzlspreger should have come on.

4) I agreed with Barkley coming off, but he should have been replaced with Oviedo instead of Jelavic. We needed Someone in front of Baines to afford him some protection AND to give him the freedom to bomb forward occasionally. Oviedo was the correct choice because he can cover LB and his pace MIGHT have forced the Angry bird back a bit. But instead, we carried on with LM effectively vacant.

5) Second goal was beautiful. Mirallas is going to be big for us, but for me he has to play at 10 (assuming the 451 / 4231 we normally play). Playing him in a free-ish role higher up the field, forcing defenders to respect his pace, will create space for others. And we can play people in front of Baines and Coleman who are more willing to cover back and cover those two when they move forward.

6) Utterly sick of watching Jags and Distin HOOFING. If we don't have a CM who will offer himself for a short pass, and can play the ball forward himself, then why is Hitz not getting a game?

Gutted we couldn't hold the lead, but considering the tactics we employed and the fact that Barkley, Osman and Gibson all had AWFUL games, I'm surprised we had the lead to start with. We just sat there for 75 minutes booting the ball away and shouting "have another go" at them. They were there for the taking, and we didn't go for it. Liverpool dropped points and we failed to take advantage.

Because he has been average at best when on the pitch and his absolutely spent by the hour mark if not earlier.

Hello mate.

Considering the Chelsea result, and the significantly greater possession you had today, I would have expected that you'd be annoyed with the outcome?

And for clarity, are saying that you had 4 or 5 first-team players missing, or that we did? I was under the impression that you were missing Bale, Lennon and Defoe, but the rest of your starting lineup was intact?

Coleman is not a right winger. He is horrific there.

He would have played 45 minutes at most, had he come on for Osman, Gibbo or Heitinga at half time. 35 max if he'd come on after Mirallas scored. And I would have taken "average" over the dross Osman and Gibson delivered today.

@Tree13 we also had Kaboul and Sandro out. Two starters.

Chelsea doesn't bother me. We will turn them over at their place ;-)

Am I missing something here?

Have we just took a point away to 3rd in the league or lost at home to Reading?

What about injury time?

Gibson was alright today (not usual Gibson but still) and Heitinga did the job of shielding the back 4 and putting tackles in that Hitzlsperger couldn't do because he's not mobile or strong enough. He can't play wide either. No that Osman is great out there was no place for Hitzlsperger once we went 4-42-2.
