Its sitting back for 30-40 minutes. For the most part, we invite pressure. The Norwich games in particular got to a point where they put 3 strikers on the pitch to bag a goal.

There will be the exceptions, like against Man City, but for the most part we drop deep and hoof it out hopefully to the lone striker.

We're getting better at it as we actually do have chances on the break. But the fact we dont have an out and out central midfielder who can just hold and keep the ball does hurt in the later stages of games.

Think a Carrick-type player who could just hold it and pick a pass when everyone is in panic mode.
Think that Leroy Fer could've done that in January but that went tits up.

Agree with everything you say there. The bit in bold was particularly evident yesterday - Heitinga and / or Gibson should have been performing those duties, based on the positions they were picked to play. They both failed comprehensively at the specific role you've mentioned.

Gutted we didn't win. 4th still on but it's out of our hands now, we weren't ruthless enough. Should get it into our heads that two goals not one, allows you to sit back a little. Either way I don't think our season was decided today or the last few weeks, Mirallas injury and piss poor mid season (and awful officiating early season) are to blame, too many draws. Need a foreign manager that pushes the team to be ruthless, look at Swansea and Southampton

I think you're right about getting a foreign manager. Not because of the foreign factor, but because I don't see a suitable British
candidate. The trouble is, who at Everton has the expertise to spot and pick the man who'd take us forward?

There's a lot to like about David Moyes, but his tactics at times are abysmal. Ironically, he's probably the best man to make
that judgement.

Naismith for Mirrallas, even if there's no immediate identifiable consequences just reeks psychologically of negativity. Why the **** would you do it ?

I think we're nursing him along to the end of the season. He seems to move pretty well, but maybe his hamstring is still
a bit of a bother.

Really good performance, no complaints from me. I have been massively impressed with Everton of late to be honest. Tactically Moyes has been very good as well - people complaining about the Mirallas sub are failing to realise that he was completely gone in the legs and had given up tracking back completely. It was the correct call.

We were a couple of inches away from a win today, if only Vic had turned that chance in...

You're kidding!

Btw, the reason I'm racking up all these posts in a row is because I'm 9 hours ahead of most of you and you're in bed.

On the whole a decent result, but under the circumstances a game we had to win. Victor was immense, he is getting a regular run of games and is full of confidence. If ever a player deserved a goal it was him. The lack of a physical presence at the heart of our midfield was obvious. Many times Oman and Gibson were just shrugged off the ball far too easily, it was apparent why moves wanted fer to give us a much needed physical presence. On the plus side miralles scored another world class goal, it is just a pity we don't have anyone else on the same wavelength as him in our midfield. Another steal by moyes at 5m! Next week Felliani has to return at centre midfield alongside Gibson at the expense of Ossie who looks out on his feet. Piennar will return and I'd like to see Oviedo given a run out, to inject some needed pace into the team with Miralles to play just off anichebe.

Yes please.

Surely you mean for the first goal? Both centre halves let it past them. Trly shocking defending. Much worse than the second goal.

Did they let it past them? I think it was just one of those good crosses that they couldn't quite get to.

And I don't think they even done that well defensively, time and time again dembele and Parker were skipping through our midfield, just watch Gibson for the effort Howard turned on to the bar. And the marking for their equaliser was none existent.

It was a joke really...

He never moves at pace anyway. Heitinga wasn't required or expected to do anything but defensive duties anyway so I don't think you can say he was awful.

Maybe Oviedo for Barkley would've made more sense, but Moyes sees him every day in training and obviously doesn't rate the guy.

So, why did he buy him?

A lot of us think he's OK, and want to see him play. When Peanut can't play, who's a better option? We saw yesterday that Bainesy need support.
