Toxic Fans - Are They Holding Us Back?

Benitez shouts long before he was even linked to us

Me and DGLC are in the process of trying to work out what account came between @EverBlue86 and this current iteration. There’s a 4 year gap so there has to be another one. Also trying to figure out what he’s been perma banned TWICE previously for.

Talk to me about his current multis as well. I’ve got theories

I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, probably going to get negged to oblivion for this - but yes, we are.

I travel up 5/6 times a season to watch us at home, and have done for a couple of years now and has been bad for awhile, but nothing compared to now. The atmosphere around the has become so toxic that the missus no longer wants to come watch the game with me, and now I'm having to go up on my own as my old man is a little too old to travel.

I've been fortunate enough to experience the atmosphere of other clubs, and I will say that our atmosphere is unique in how toxic it is. We used to be able to channel it toward the opposition, but now it's targetted firmly at our own. I've seen grown men shout the most obsene abuse at people like Tom Davies, DCL, Mykolenko, Iwobi, Gomes, Kenny, Keane, and Gordon.

We ask these players to go out there and die for us, whilst giving them nothing in terms of support - week in week out.

We are where we are as a club and the only way we're going to survive is if we stick together.

It's just a circle though.

The fanbase wouldn't be so toxic if the club was ran better, if it spent better, if it communicated better, if it didn't lie to us, if it didn't accuse us of things, if it supported us back when we needed it to. They throw us out to the wolves and except us to sit there and just take it and try feign positive support at what they put on the pitch for us.

Be better and we'll be better in return.

I don't think Everton have a problem with toxic fans at all.

People in general can be toxic, some of them just happen to support Everton.

You used to have to go out of your way to be a git in the past, these days you can just open your phone and be one in seconds and then move on with the rest of your day.

That's not going to change though, there is no magic wand that suddenly makes everything okay. We could get new owners in October, Kenwright could be gone and after a dozen games and the Jan window closes it could go toxic as every decision has to be perfect and in reality when you're compromised that isn't going to happen. You may fluke one but not every single one and if you don't get the results everything is magnified by 10.

The hostility against Fulham took about 25 minutes to come to the fore where the atmosphere went from trying to push them on to groans and abuse. We then had a period where we managed to create a consistent bit of pressure and it was fine again. One half of football we couldn't keep an open mind for, I understand the reasons as it just seems a continuation of last year but that is on us, not them.

Nah don’t agree with that at all. No fan demands perfection. We just want some stability and some forward thinking people in place. We can handle bottom half finishes if there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We've played a grand total of one game this season, yet for some of our 'fans' the apocolypse is already here.

Can we really expect to sign half decent players if this is the way they'll treated? It's unfortunately a problem that has persisted for a long time, with no sign of it abating.

BUH WARRABOUT DUH MUNNY EEEZZ OHNN??? 😡

Some people really need something else going on in their lives.

do you wanna look at it now and call the fans?

I would counter that with we have a lot of new players to introduce, a new stadium in the next 12-14 months and it is well known the owner wants to go so we'll be getting a new one soon enough.

People saw the first teamsheet of the new season with Keane and Maupay and it went flat almost immediately. When that happens we rarely get a result as we need it to be on fire on the best of days to pull us through.

Whose fault is that though? I'd expect nothing less from the crowd when handed agents of continued failure.

That's on the club.

But we all know the situation that we don't have a lot of money to change that, so how is turning on the team within 2 games helping exactly? It's also damned if they don't, damned if they do, as say we get a player realistically we know we can get (Adams) and slap down 15/16 million and improved wages to get it done ASAP, if he doesn't get up and running quickly just like with Maupay the crowd will turn on him saying he was never good enough in the first place and we overpaid, he'll find it difficult from there on.

Someone will have to report how the atmosphere is like at the weekend but it was bordline toxic against Fulham and that is down to the fans. Add in the messages to the players and DCL getting abuse and we can't say we're all sweetness and light and technically the window is open so it might change (probably won't as we know) but the fans have already locked, loaded and fired and that helps no one.
