Didn't quite a bit of last seasons increased income go towards clearing debt? As much as I like shiny new players coming in it would be good to get that monkey off our back at last even if it means we stagnate for a couple of years

We're not even after him mate according to some on here, it's all a big smokescreen and diversion tactic to give us a free run at our real target.

The club are playing a blinder here!

....can't really understand the need for diversion tactics, word will be out when we make a move. All too clever for me.

A member of Dries Mertens’ entourage plays down previous talk of a move away from Napoli - ‘the player does not want to leave’.

The Belgian winger’s agent had previously hinted his client could leave this summer, but another of his team appeared to backtrack on those comments today.

“Mertens is a top player, and wanted by several clubs,” Massimiliano Capparoni admitted, speaking to Radio Crc.

“However, Napoli are not currently in talks with anyone, and I don’t think there will be any problems with him staying in Naples.

“Obviously the transfer market is ever-changing, but the player doesn’t want to leave a city which has taken him to its heart.

“If an important offer came in, then Napoli would evaluate it. The price of the player is dictated by the market, and there may have been some interest from Inter, but at the moment there are no negotiations.

“Mertens is happy to stay at Napoli, so at the moment there are no problems there.

“Mertens would like to start the project with [new Coach Maurizio] Sarri, then along the way we’ll have a better idea of what the Coach wants to do technically, and everyone will have a better idea where they stand.”
