Transfer Window Thread

Been a little out of the picture for the last few days lads, could someone update me on what's been going on re: transfers?

Sensible replies only please, I've been up to here with it.

Imagine reading a book that's full of twists and turns and keeps you glued to it; then at the end nothing happens.

That's been about it.....oh and the little strange looking Swiss fella signed for stoke

What are you talking about you niff nuff.
His recovery from injury has everything to do with it.... As I said earlier you haven't read the thread.
You clearly have no idea what is being discussed here.

No top level club would buy Oviedo as a winger.

I hear the sheep calling.
Think you need to get back in the queue at your busted flush bank and forget footy for a bit. Look out mate,Christine Lagarde is coming for you!

Des it actually save money getting players in late on in the window? Possibly transfer fee could be lower (or higher) but surely contract length would be the same i.e 2,3 0r 4 years.

no i think contracts always run to 30th june on a particular year. so we love saving a few weeks wages by not signing players until end of august

Getting Kone on for Galloway, yes! Ross deeper, yes!

So it was Mirallas then. Even worse. Irrespective he come on to play in an advanced wide role ahead of McAleny with the score at 1-1.

Mirallas was hurt mate. Oviedo is a more proven winger than McAleny. If Deu was healthy he would have come on I'd imagine.

His subs were something different (which everyone moans about his stubbornness) and they worked.

can't believe he subbed mirallas off....

I understand Mirallas was injured and hence the substitution. But I'm sorry, I don't see Oviedo as winger, let along a better attacking option then McAleny.

Now in the context of what I've seen all pre-season, there's no way anyone can justify Oviedo, who has hardly played and has looked beyond rusty, coming on instead of Connor, who had looked sharp and bagged a couple of goals.

For me Martinez was outstanding in the first season. His subs we based on his unconditional confidence in the backline. When Distin's form went last year, so did Roberto's bottle for making attacking, proactive team selections and subs.

Kone for Galloway was forced and reactive. Goal down chasing the game.

He needs to attack right from the outset , not when he's left with little choice.

I have no doubt our fragility defensively is effecting his decision making.

You realize Oviedo plays on the wing for his country, right?

My argument stands. Has not shown me anything in the last 3yrs to suggest he has anywhere near enough weapons in his locker to be a quality winger at this level.

Ask Martinez if Oviedo would still be at the club if wasn't a cover for LB. Doubt it.

All of the above, and quite a bit more, has got nothing to do with the transfer window.
Match thread and player threads for post match analysis please gents.

Let's hope not .

From what I have seen he is slow and cumbersome , over plays and gets caught in possession - and that's in a pub league.

There is a reason that Holland with a shocking central defence don't pick him.

You're wrong

He's excellent and we could really use him

The reason he isn't playing for Holland is because he plays in Scotland and the Dutch management don't want a player in the SPFL in the national set up because, like you, they underestimate the league itself. That's the whole reason he wants to leave, so he can get into the Holland picture. He's wanted to leave for over a year for this very reason

By the 2018 World Cup, he'll be a first teamer for Holland and probably at a big Premier League or Bundesliga club. We need to sign him now, get a couple of seasons out of him and sell for a profit while we still can

He'll be signed for 8-10 million and will get sold for 20+

I'd rather him than that Zapata we've been linked with. Also it seems to have gone quiet on the Argentinian front, Mori was it.

Given the paucity of decent central defenders in Europe I find it remarkable that no team of note has signed him if he is as good as you think.

Man U have a real need for a commanding centre half and their manager is Dutch I wonder why he hasn't gone there.
