well not really mate, break them down in a bit more detail, Osman, Pienaar are pretty much always injured so will not be anything more than subs anyway this year.
Kone's injury record and pre season form prett ymuch means he is entirely unreliable - great 2 games but equally likely to turn turbo gash again at any point - plus one game that he played very well out wide right a bit like Lukaku against Arsenal may have just been an opponent realy suiting it and he may struggle their on any consistent basis if played. Plus he's getting on a bit in age same as Osman and Pienaar so probably last season for him here.

Barkley most can see and Martinez himself seems to as well is far better when not asked to play in the hole behind Lukaku and given more of a free role or played deeper. certainly he has shown he is poor when asked to play wide left or right.

McGeady i think everyone and his dog can see has no future at the club and is either gonna just be used if we have an injury crisis or will be shipped off if any itnerest from anyone is shown

Cleverley can play numerous positions and is the perfect 'squad player' will see a lot of games this seaosn more than likely playing all over the shop wherre he is needed due to injuries poor form etc

Naismith - pure impact sub to be thrown on last 15 to bring his workrate and an extra body in the box

Have to factor int hat both Kev and Deulefeu have both struggled with missing chunkls of game time with injuries over the past 2 years as well and theirs no sign they won't miss 8-10 games each going forward.

Seems a bad way to do it, hoarde a load of players in the knowledge half of them will never be fit?

The fantasy...

"Stones, striding out of defence, he lofts it to Yarmolenko, he cushions it, pirouettes around his man, and another, he plays a 1-2 with Barkley, then slides it to Mirallas who's free down the left and wow, what a cross... and Rom powers it in at the kop end"

The reality...

"Johnny Evans charges forwards to intercept, and he's missed it, looks like he's tweaked his hamstring too. Howard's there though and he's ready for the counter as Everton try to equalise. He kicks it long... Lennon jumps for it and it's over his head. Throw in to Bournemouth."

This image.... of a diminutive Everton player (Osman/AJ/Pienaar) jumping with an almost christ-like splaying of limbs, as their neck suddenly disappears into their body when they go up for a hoof-ball is the image of futility and one that has plagued my dreams down the years.

I want the top scenario in your post to be realised and supplant it.

I just love how the only time Tim Howard ever kicks it to a player in blue, it's to the smallest one on the pitch. It's like he's mastered the art of making us fume.

So believable.

I agree with all that from a football angle. That area is not as well covered as we believe for the reasons you outline.

It is still a lot of wages though, and from a financial p.o.v. it could need trimming before the end of the window. A lot of it takes care of itself next summer, of course, with contracts expiring.

Naismith I'd encourage to leave if a bid came in (also the likeliest source for a fee) especially given that he wants a lot of game time for his international ambitions. McGeady might still be of use if Stones is sold and VVD is a target - he could provide a make weight. If not it'd be wise to listen to offers for him. He could do ok lower down this league with less pressure. Osman and Pienaar are just going to have to be kept hold of because we'll get no offers.

Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia could be on the move to Merseyside with Premier League side Evertonconsidering a move for the Italian.

The Nerazzurri are looking to move on some of their defenders as they feel they are currently over stocked in the centre-back position, while the Premier League club are currently trying to fend off interest from English champions Chelsea who have made a number of bids of the young defender.

According to Gianlucadimarzio.com, despite rejecting two bids for John Stones the Toffees are lining up a possible back up should Chelsea raise their offer once again.

Ranocchia is currently the captain of the Biscione but has found his position in the Inter first-team usurped by signings of Miranda and Jeison Murillo.

Over the last three season the 27 year-old has been a regular starter for the Nerazzurri making 79 Serie Aappearances. He moved to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in January of 2011 from Genoa.

....another link with an Italian based defender. Seems very unlikely.

Not really though mate, Osman and Pienaar he inherited coming to the end of their careers (and starting to pick a lot of knocks up) he bought Kone who then got crocked big time - which effectively derailed him for us till now - when despite the first two games it's unlikely he will ever be a starter again. Naismith just isn't suited to his system and style of play yet again an inherited player, McGeady was just a cheap gamble thats not worked out. the ones he has brought in have by and large a large role to play i'd say - replacing the more veteran players or ones not suited to the possession / technical style of play

One of our scouts has definitely spent a bit of time in Italy with the amount of players from there we have been linked too

we will take a hit on wages this year mate, but most teams in transition from one manager to another with a ageing squad have no option but to take that hit, this season and next summer is a massive job for Martinez just in going from the old guard to the new whilst trying to maintain the same spirit in the changing room - all without much cash at all apparently

Agree with both McGeady and Naismith McGeady especially so), Naismith got the feeling will be kept in the team as he can make a impact with his energy level, plus think he is very much one of those 'right characters' Martinez talks about and he seems very concerned with not losing the character of the team left by Moyes
