So by not selling players we are a selling club? Everton really can't win.
yes.

if we cant spend much without selling then yes we would be.

we go and spend 20 million in a window considering the financial climate and we are managing our climate. We spend less than what most clubs have spent on a single player and then claim we arent a selling club, im sorry but that is just silly.

Just imagine...

Funes Mori does not get work permit

and then he says that 3 new players he wanted to sign are Rodriguez, young lad from Scotland and Holgate... and will sell Stones...

That would be the best pure Ebepton ever.

I think small not selling club is the word you are after. The rest of us just don't want to admit it.

Interesting post with some good arguments. I think we are playing hard ball with the Yarmolenko deal, and there is currently a stand off. If Dynamo are prepared to sell him, he will come to Everton. This ' Everton call off deal' business is Bills way of laying down a gauntlet, and he is very good at this. Big problem is currently how fit Bill K is to get involved in negotiations. Unless a bid close to £50 million comes in for Stones, he won't go...and I don't think Chelsea will go that far. Net sales is of course less important than quality on the field...in fact currently Stokes net sale is about £2 million, and we have a far better squad than them. There may yet be a surprise signing close to the end of the window, and one or two outgoings of fringe players...McGeady probably and even Gibson if anyone will buy him.

I think you're reading of the situation is quite close to the mark. My own theory is, is that we're not going to sign Yarmalenko without selling Stones first. I don't think we'd have a spare 15 million in the budget lying around which could be spent on another winger. I also think, as you've said his pulling out of the race and linking another player in the Ukrainian league (Bernard) from left field is a bluff, to let them know we can go elsewhere. Liverpool did this in the Benteke race, and used Rondon and Bacca for example. I suspect the Ukrainian president is playing hardball and possibly moving the goalposts.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the media exposure to Stnes has died down at a similar time to the Yarmalenko stuff. My own feelings are, if it's before transfer deadline day, and Chelsea offer upwards of 40 million we would consider it. We'd probably see a mad dash for a centre half (I suspect we'll try for Van Dijk but end up with Evans) Yarmalenko and also think we may try a cheeky lowball bid for Austin.

If we don't get that bid from Chelsea then I suspect we will look at mainly getting loans in.

On the original post for @Ashtonian, I understand what he's saying about what benefit is it keeping Stones for 1 more year. The reality is though, especially at this late stage it would be a bad time to sell. We have already let our 2 senior centre halves go. I don't think selling Stones was ever an option (whereas it may have been for Barkley, McCarthy or even Lukaku had the right bid come in, and especially Mirallas).

If and it's a big if, we can sign Mori he will have a years experience in the premiership and probably be ready to start the following season. Likewise you would hope Browning and Galloway may be ready by next season to play a part at Centre back. I have a suspicion we have informally agreed to sign Evans like we did Cleverley last season. In all honesty in next summer would be a good time to then sell Stones (relative to this week) knowing we had back up in place.

I think Chelsea well test us twice more. One bid at 35 million with add ons, then on transfer deadline day. The fact the bid hasn't come in yet says to me Stones hasn't disrupted things as they'd have hoped.

Kenwright rightly or wrongly is under quite a bit of pressure currently. I think if we have another stunt like we saw with Arteta or Rooney, ie Stones being allowed to leave and the money not being spend on a replacement, a number 10 and another forward there would be a lot of anger. It makes sense for Kenwright to stick with him for another year if that's the case.

I wonder. On the big IF scenario, if we Arteta'd Stones to chelsea? considering the current goings on, would that be the crushing blow to the board? I don't mean in a sense of opinion, i mean in the sense of 38 thousand everton fans turning up to the next home game with a lot of opinions and negativity?

If we spent the stones money at the same time then its neither here nor there, but i'm talking a lennon januazi loan then arteta'ing the money, even if we did plan to spend it in january it would be a long 4 months until we could do that.

I think even I'd be able to hear the BOOOOOOs up here in Scotland.

Nothing against Leandro Rodriguez (I didn´t know him) but when I read Martinez quote; that he is looking to bring him to Everton I want to
Are the south american lads really the targets who he worked for since march? I can´t believe it...So disappointing!
Agree mate

2 South Americans we had never heard of a week ago
Mori might be ok even though Tim vickery doesn't think he's up to it

As for the striker I can imagine him being on the bench for a few games maybe getting 10mins here 10 mins there
Then getting shipped back to South America on loan in jan never to be seen again

I hope I'm wrong like

Martinez expecting us all to get excited about these signings

What's happened to his class number 10?

If we end up with these 2 and Lennon on deadline day
That will be depressing to say the least

I doubt they would make it out of Goodison alive. Surely even then the pro-kenwright/board people couldnt turn a blind eye.

lets be honest, it wouldnt even be seen in January we have all heard that one before too.

"At the moment there is nothing to announce but he would fit into that outstanding young talent like Mason Holgate and is a player who we would love to see if we could get a positive outcome."

This quote from Martinez, to me, indicates that Rodriguez is NOT one of the 3 he sees improving us this season. Some may see it differently but that is what I get from that statement.

to be honest no, small suggests we are a feeder for big teams which is what the club is purposly avoiding the best it can.

My point is simply not spending much and claiming not being a selling club is just silly, especially as if we sold we would spend. Like we have done for years.

We gain nothing by not spending any money whether we keep stones or not. Great we keep stones for another year, with a uruguan striker noone has heard of and potentially loaning a winger who is no better than what we have. That is really going forward!

Come may it makes no difference if we have not sold a certain player or signed whoever, its league places that matter. And at the end of the day Yarmelenko/bernard/payat/wijnaldum/shaquiri signings will make a difference over 38 games, big or small. So if we are staying still then no player with ambition will want to stay and tread water with us
