Transfer Window Thread

If we had any intention of permitting Stones to go - by now we would have done the deal , and not been fetching in players from the river plate, Any high priced players never got going as talks broke down!
It does make me wonder about that article and Martinez facing the sack because he can't work within the constraints of the transfer system. It basically was saying that he needed to sell Stones to get the money for his targets.

I wonder if there's an element of truth in that and Martinez has until now flatly refused to sell Stones and there's been a big disagreement at board level.

Do you know what im worried about the most here ? Is that i dont trust Martinez in making a quality defensive signing if stones leaves
I think, given Martinez tried to sign Stones for Wigan, he's not a complete tool when it comes to identifying a defender

Plus he signed Galloway, and he looks very promising. Holgate too but obviously that's far too early to judge.

Mind you, they're all potential-based signings. Can Martinez sign a CB to slot in and be ace right now?

He is.. slightly. He's just as good with the ball at his feet, he's faster, more powerful, dominant and is a bigger goal threat. He'd be on the free kicks here if we get him.
no he is not, do not be so foolish and blinkered.

He is no where NEAR the class of stones, at all.

Stones is miles better, at literally everything you want your center back to be good at, and even then he could go on to be one of the best in the world,

Van dijk will be lucky to be playing for a bottom half premier league club.

Let southampton waste the money of him.

The problem we have now is any CB (certainly in the Prem) we show interest in, the selling club will hike the price up assuming we have the Stones cash. I have a feeling things are going to get worse before they get better

There's not a chance we're finishing this window with a positive net spend, not a chance.

Just like the McCarthy transfer when Fellaini left, didn't sign till after Felli had gone, claim that it wasn't dependent on anyone leaving.

This year the same, 'deals will happen end of the window'...why? Oh, perhaps it gives us time to sell a player and not invest a positive penny into the playing squad.

The reality is, despite the TV money, NOTHING has changed.
I agree. If we had of got Yarmolenko then I think we would have ended with a positive net spend but since I think that's unlikely now Martinez will want to keep the money in much the same way he did after the Fellaini transfer for next year and someone he really wants.

We could be in for a really difficult season.

And if their promise is real who knows, they might get to play for Chelsea one day.
