Why should a player like Stones want to stay at a club with no ambition whatsoever, when he has a club with lots of ambition knocking on his door?

same reason why lukaku did the opposite. because he's young, a guaranteed starter at one of the best teams in one of the biggest leagues.

McCarthy and Mirallas recently signed new contracts. Barkley, Coleman and Lukaku are on long-term deals, which they were happy to sign. Are they wrong to have done so?

Having no ambition and not having the resources to fulfill those ambitions aren't the same. And we aren't the only club having to sell a top asset. Arsenal sold RVP and Fabregas, Spurs sold Bale and every season the RS lost players like Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez and Sterling to clubs bigger/wealthier than them.

Lot of hate n fume on this thread boys, I'm off to the Cilla Black memorial thread (Ale House forum) to share virtual love n memories.

We are bottom of the spending league, with a negative net spend looking increasingly likely, during the most prosperous era of the Premier League, at a time when the club is making profits of 25million pound plus. How's that for ambition?

Lukaku did the opposite because he couldn't get a game at Chelsea. He's actually starting in a team that finished 11th last season, at a club that has had no investment whatsoever in over 15 years.

The thing about Stone is not that he is a unique ball playing center half, it is that he is a ball playing English center half. For £40 m. we will easily find a replacement and have more that £25 m. left. Half of the fee we will receive is because of his passport. Someone like Jannick Vestergaard from Werder Bremen will be just as good and will be available for less than £10 m.

With the exception of Barca and Real there is always a bigger club waiting to take our best players away from us, just like we took John from Barnsley.
