Some utter meffs have lashed money on us to sign Shaqiri which has resulted in odds being slashed from 33/1 to 2/1 to sign him.

More likely sky have some info he is going to schalke and have slashed our odds instead to make it look like someone knows something

Yeah the odds for him going to Schalke are so short now I doubt anyone would bet on it. They probably cut ours right down to get people to gamble on it.

MLS could use the new "core player" rule. They just invented that to allow big market teams to sign an extra player who also make designated player money.

As much as I am a homer of my local team...this league is complete schneidenpoo. The league's single entity and salary cap is supposed to limit the amount of revenue each team can allocate which should allow smaller teams to compete since everyone has the same wage bill. Except the large market teams earn more by the size of their marketing footprint so MLS rewrites the financial rules mid season so the LA or NYC teams can sign a Pirlo or Gerrard even after the wage bill has been maxed.

But who knows, the transfer window just opened this week for the MLS..maybe Howard will be loaned and sold back home.

Unless you're trying to win the league, Manchester City being interested in your players is a good thing.

Yeah we'll use that money on all the proven CL quality players that want to come play for Everton.

Or failing that, which we would, we'll roll the dice on some younger players who won't improve us, some of whom won't work out, and if we're really lucky we'll end up in the same place we started with someone we can flog to a team that actually wins things so we can start the whole cycle all over again.

Or we could keep the CL quality players we have and try to make a push. Which judging from RM's comments about "keeping the group together" being the most important thing is the road we are taking. Likely because sell to buy doesn't work.

Yes it does. In fact, it's the only thing that works if you don't have money being pumped into the club. Many foreign clubs have been doing it for years, and managed to win things while they're at it.

As for signings, there's a middle ground. One Everton James McCarthy can buy two Wigan James McCarthys. Not guaranteed successes, but fair bets of good quality players. Sometimes you might get a dud, but at the same time you might get lucky and sign a superstar. Then you keep them for as long as you can, get as much out of that team as you can, before doing it all again.

It's just modern football.
