Don't think Howard to MLS is as easy or nailed on as people think. Teams only get 3 designated player spots which Howard's wages would command, most won't use one of those spots on a keeper. Also he's popular with general public due to his national team play which he hasn't been apart of for the last year, klinnsman might not even give him the starting role back

How does that designated player thing work mate?

Surely we at least have around 10m minimum.

As it was confirmed that we was in for Ogbonna by the guy himself... And he cost around that figure.

A playmaker should be the priority

Dortmund, porto, psv, ajax, benfica, athl madrid, have all had major sucess by that method mate
Yes it does. In fact, it's the only thing that works if you don't have money being pumped into the club. Many foreign clubs have been doing it for years, and managed to win things while they're at it.

Been down this road before lids and nobody ever mentions Prem clubs. Why? Because it doesn't work in the Prem! We wouldn't need to sell to buy in some of those leagues you mention -- we'd be one of the 1%. There are LOTS of selling clubs in the Prem and none of them have managed to make it work. I don't give a toss about Porto its about as relevant as what the Portland Timbers get up to. Those leagues don't have six-eight other clubs spending tens of millions in every window.

It works for those clubs because the competition for the lower CL spots is NOWHERE NEAR the Prem. So your competition is spending 3-5 million on players and you sell a player for 50 million and buy a bunch of better players that your competition can afford. OF COURSE THAT WORKS. In the Prem we sell and buy players CHEAPER than our competition. OF COURSE THAT DOESN'T WORK.

People in this thread complaining that Spurs and RS get such big money for their players. How will they get on in the CL this year I wonder?

How does that designated player thing work mate?
is it not they are allowed to be above the wage cap?
They brought it in for Beckham I think. Allows them to attract some players from Europe
pretty much this. the most to the point explanation is you can pay 3 designated players as much as you want to despite there being a salary/wage cap. NYCFC with Pirlo, lampard and villa , etc. As Spurting said it was first brought in for Beckham
