Lukaku either needs a boss playmaker to provide for him, or another centre forward pushed up alongside him, 2 up front.

So both of these are of equal importance for me.

Would be perfect for us.

:(

Chances created is what really let us down last year I agree. It makes the knocking it round the back look slow and ponderous because there's no cutting edge ahead. There's no stand out candidate for the position I can think of at the moment though.

Also, to show the value that can be out there:

Cazorla (£12m)
Eriksen (£11.5m)
Coutinho (£8.5m)
Tadic (£10m)
Sigurdsson (£10m)

Agree with @bluemangroup though, I'm not sure who the shortlist would be. I think Martinez would be cautious about buying a ~20 year old due to already having Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley in our attacking lineup. If that's not an issue for him then maybe Praet? Ziyech and Mertens have come out and said they're staying at their clubs this summer, Shaqiri I don't think is the right kind of player...hopefully someone we've never heard of who absolutely rips it up.

I'd go with Praet like. Even a good rather than great player there would make a world of difference.

Imagine the stories about other clubs being in for our players, such as mirallas, stones came from our club so that it looks better when we keep them but don't sign anyone who catches the eye

He'd be a huge contribution to our squad, either as a wide player or fitting in at number 10. Just cannot see it happening unfortunately.

Didn't have the opportunities at Manure, but what I've seen at Dortmund (and Klopp talks very highly about it) he is a very good player.

I was happy that Delboy and Cleverly were brought in early, but now I am becoming nervous with our apparent stagnation while others spend.

Is it going to be one of those situations where they're brought in late and then have to gel, thus having another shaky start. Hmmm....
Rumor has it he wants to leave Dortmund now that Klopp is gone, but there hasn't been anything linking him to us. I watched him a lot this season, and I agree he'd be exactly what we're looking for. But, again, ain't gonna happen.

He's got two weeks, probably less in reality now. I must say I expected more movement by this point, or at least public movement. Who knows how close we are to something behind the scenes.

But the point stands, with the start we have it's imperative something happens before opening day. I'm hoping for one of those trademark Everton surprises, but my hopes are dwindling somewhat.

All well and good having a good number 10 behind the striker but there's still the issue that Gibson aside no one playing in the deep two midfield positions can pick a forward pass. Either Martinez is waiting for Gibson or Barkley needs to be moved back. One defensive mid, one deep playmaker, and a number 10. If you want to play 4231 that is how the midfield needs to be structured: busquets xavi iniesta, Khedira Schweinsteiger Ozil, De Rossi Pirlo Totti, even Mascherano Alonso Gerrard to some extent.

Instead we currently play two holding mids, neither of which are a true DM with McCarthy being box to box and Barry more of a schemer. We then play a box to box midfielder in the number 10 position. Martinez needs to pick a DM put one of Barkley or Gibson next to him, then buy a number 10 if he wants to play 4231.

If I were boss, I would make a bid on everyone of those players and I would announce it on SKY. At least then the rest of the league would sit up a bit.

Most transfer windows I feel like we are the kid in the back of the class that everyone picks on. We respond by hiding further.
